Interesting Ridgeway Visit

Well done to the children in Year 3 for the interest and enthusiasm they showed during our visits to the Ridgeway today.

We had a quick look at the 7 Bronze Age Barrows that surround the Came Down Golf Club. Our thanks to the manager for allowing us to visit; and to the golfers who were very interested to find out what the children were up to.

We then went to the site of the "Viking Massacre" that we have been learning about, and looked at the new display boards.

Lastly we went to the Culliford Tree Barrow. This is an ancient Bronze-age Barrow that was also used as a burial place for the Anglo-Saxons about 1000 years ago. It is likely to have been around here that the Anglo-Saxons of the local area gathered for meetings and for special events (like deciding what to do with 54 captured Viking warriors, for example). It was thought to be a place of magic! The ancient people believed that faeries lived inside and that music could be heard coming from the ground! (We didn't hear any though).

Thank you to Steve Wallis (the county archaeologist) who took me to visit these places and gave me some ideas (an knowledge to share) for the visits today.

Year 3 - Life Education Van

"Meet the Brain"
The children had an interesting experience in The Life Education Van. The chosen topic for Year 3 is "Meet the Brain"; where the children learn about how the actions of the body are all governed by our central nervous system with its special control centre in the Brain.
The children were introduced to how things that are put into the body - healthy/unhealthy foods, alcohol, medicines/drugs, and nicotine can effect the way the body works properly.
We were very impressed with the way the children listened and contributed to the discussions.
