We are now taking bread bags!
Thank you all so much for all of the recycling items. I am happy to announce that we will now be collecting empty bread bags. Just a reminder that recycling can be placed in the large grey box just outside the front of school.
Amazing swimmers!
Well done to all of our Year 3 children who took part in the Dorset school games swimming gala. You were amazing and showed perseverance and determination.

A fantastic community litter pick!
Thank you to all of the families that collected rubbish from our community as part of the nationwide 'Keep Britain tidy'.
There were over 5 black sacks full of rubbish! The Prince of Wales School can proudly say we are involved in making Dorchester not only a plastic free community but also cleaner.
The children involved even got to choose a book from Mr Spracklen's wall.
If you would still like to take part in the clean then there is an organised litter pick on Saturday 30th March in the Borough Gardens, Dorchester.
Y3 Spring farm trip
We have had a beautiful trip to the farm this morning. We were lucky enough to see a lamb born in the field on the way. We looked at the lambs and even saw a sheep who had four lambs!
After this we saw the cows, chickens and pigs.
Thank you so much to Hazel, the children are so lucky to be able to visit Maiden Castle Farm.

Y3 are awesome!
Well done to all of Year 3. A fantastic performance this morning! Thank you to the parents for some great costumes!
Just a reminder that on Tuesday we will be going to the farm to see the lambs. Normal farm trip clothing please with a spare pair of shoes in school for after the trip.
Next week also sees the launch of the big pedal competition. We will be competing against other schools in the area to show how ‘green’ we are. If you can please do try and ride, scoot or walk for the next fortnight.
Have a lovely weekend

Y3- Dr George McGavin visits our school
Today Year 3 were lucky enough to be involved with the Dorset Wildlife Trusts 'Get Dorset Buzzing' event. We all went to the garden and planted our own sunflower seeds (courtesy of Poundbury Gardens). The children should have bought these home with them today. These can be planted in your gardens. In time these beautiful flowers will attract bees and other pollinators to your garden.
All of the children got to meet Dr George McGavin who then lead the assembly on the importance of hedgerows and wildflower gardens. He even said that 1/4 of your garden should be left to help wildlife. We have over 200 species of bees in this country but some are becoming extinct due to pesticides and over building. I showed Dr McGavin around our Forest school area. He has made some suggestions on how to improve the wildlife in this area. This will be something we will focus on in Forest School.

Eco shed recycling news... please read!
Mrs Thorpe and the Eco team have been very busy over the last couple of weeks sorting out all of the recycling in our Eco shed. Thank you all so much for your donations. A couple of things have been highlighted by the Eco team.
First of all we would like to remind everyone that we do not take all plastics (none of the things in the picture above). We have had a lot of plastic containers and plastic lids placed in the tubs. We have also had coffee wrappers, mug shots and multi pack of crisp wrappers. All of which we do not accept.
At the moment we are suspending our intake of eco bricks. Although we still encourage people to make these, we will not be accepting any of these at this time. This is mainly because the majority of the eco bricks we are receiving have not been correctly weighed, registered and logged with the eco bricks website before being dropped off. This means that the eco team unfortunately don't have enough time to go through them all as there are rather a lot!
The last bit of information that we want to share with you is a new way to drop off your recycling. We now have a grey storage bin just outside the main entrance door (underneath the office window) which you can use to drop your recycling in to. This will then be emptied and sorted by the children, allowing us to put the recycling in to the correct bins and throwing away anything that we is non-recyclable.
Thank you all so much for your continued support with making The Prince of Wales School even more green and for helping us to look after our wonderful planet. We welcome any suggestions on items you think we should be recycling. The more we recycle the more points we will get to buy additional learning resources for the school.
We will add a list of the things we now take below:
-Silver lined crisp packets (any)
-Pringle tubes
-Old toothbrushes and empty toothpaste
- Biscuit and cracker wrappers
-Baby food pouches
- Lids and pumps off the spray bottles
-Empty baby wipe wrappers (not the plastic lids)
-Empty anti bacterial wipes wrapper
-Plastic air fresheners and the wrappers
-Used pens
-Bottle tops
