Year 3 - Experts in Roman Dorchester - 12.3.2020
What a fantastic trip today (except for the 10 minute rainy bit). A big thank you to Steve Willis from Dorset Council for guiding us on our tour and providing an extremely informative presentation about Dorchester's Roman past. A big thank you to the parents who accompanied us and got wet in the process and most of all thank you to the children who were brilliantly behaved, resilient in the rain and were keen to explore and learn outside the classroom.
Part of the home learning this weekend will be a quick quiz about Roman Dorchester to see how much they've remembered! Home learning will come home tomorrow 13.3.2020.
We are looking forward to next week's trip with Steve Willis to learn more about our Roman and Celtic history.

Roman soldiers!
Today we all acted as Roman soldiers. Year 3 loved pretending to march through Britannia and make different formations using the shields. This was fantastic to see!
Thank you to everyone that has bought back your 3A Maths book. This week we are going to be multiplying a 2 digit number by a 1 digit number. We will be using resources such as the tens and ones counters to support the understanding of how to multiply two numbers.
Ravenclaw and Gryffindor had Forest School this afternoon. We cooked simple flatbreads and collect wood from around our site. The children also started to make leather cuffs and decorated them using metallic pens.
Just a reminder that Year 3 will be going to the Roman townhouse on Thursday morning.

Year 3 - Trips in the coming weeks - 5th March 2020
A letter will be coming home tomorrow giving information about two local trips we will be going on in the coming weeks (providing the weather is in our favour). More information will be displayed on a board outside the classroom as a reminder.
Please come and let us know if you can help!
Many thanks
The year 3 team.

Year 3 - Home Learning - 5th March 2019
First of all an apology! I seem to have mixed up the groups and the type of costume they need in the home learning that came home today. If your child is in Slytherin or Hufflepuff groups they will need a CELTIC costume to match the wonderful shields that they made in the holidays. If your child is in Gryffindor or Ravenclaw they will need a ROMAN costume to match the amazing shields they made in the school holidays. Sorry for the confusion!
Power Maths books will be coming home tomorrow. Friday 6th March 2020.
Here is the home learning:

This week we would like you to start collecting together a costume for some drama work and our class assembly later this term. We would like children in Slytherin and Hufflepuff groups to bring in a CELTIC costume and Gryffindor and Ravenclaw will need a ROMAN Costume. Costumes do not need to be elaborate. For Roman you could go anything from Roman Soldier to Toga (old sheets work well for this). For Celtic warrior tracksuit bottoms, baggy shirts, blankets and big belts. The children already have some fantastic shields to go with their costumes and we will be using these over the coming weeks to recreate some scenes from the times of the Roman Invasion! Please bring your costume in as soon as possible and at the latest by Monday 16th March.
Power Maths books will be coming home tomorrow. Friday 6th March 2020.

Year 3 Home Learning - 4th March 2020
Also a Maths Challenge:
- Many of the children will be bringing home their old Power Maths practise books in order to complete any gaps. Please see the separate letter coming home with the books. There is no time limit on this piece of home learning, but returned books will earn a special reward.
- X Table Check. We would like to encourage the children to practise and begin to learn their times tables off by heart. There are three levels of challenge here: For Bronze Level your child needs to be able to write the multiples of the times table in order, for example 2, 4, 6, 8…. 24. For Silver Level you child needs to be able to calculate x statements not in order, for example ?=5x4, 9x4=?, ?x4=24. For Gold Level your child will need to complete a quick fire times table check at school. This week as a starter we would like you to look at the 2 and 4 x tables. Please have a go at filling in the Bronze and Silver levels on the sheet and return to school by Wednesday 11th March.
Thank you
The year 3 team

Year 3 - Super learners and home learning - 27.2.2020
What a great day we've had in year 3 today! From cracking multiplication and division facts including remainders, with use of arrays to writing factual reports about the Roman invasion using paragraphing! But we didn't stop there! Miss Chant gave us an insight into Roman mosaics, we started learning about our families in French and began learning a song which has some rather interesting facts regarding the Ancient Romans' habits!!
It really was the best day to come and get to know year 3 a bit better. Lots more inspired learning to come...
Home learning this week has two parts:
1. To draw bar chart using the data collected earlier this week about your favourite pancake toppings.
2. To find out 10 amazing facts about Roman Soldiers, there is some information to help you along the way, but please feel free to use other sources to research some fun facts. This activity will support learning in Humanities and Literacy next week.
We have more copies of this home learning, just in case it has got lost in transit!
Looking forward to seeing you all again tomorrow!

Year 3- information about the week and our visit to Rome!
Welcome to Spring 2!
WOW we have had some outstanding shields in already this week. Thank you to all of the parents that have supported this. Please can we have all of these in by next Friday as we want to use them for some of our learning.
This week we have started to learn about the Romans. Today the children learnt about how the Romans invaded lots of European countries. We used the VR headsets to visit Rome, the Colosseum a Roman military camp but also see how the Romans engineered buildings such as a Pantheon and aqueducts. This was a fantastic immersive experience for them and they were really impressed! The other half of the class will get to experience this tomorrow.
Today Miss Chant, who is a student teacher with us for a week, taught Year 3 about Pancake day and Lent. We then celebrated this learning by eating pancakes!
On Friday afternoon Year 3 and 4 have an exciting outing up to The Thomas Hardy School. We have been invited to watch a dance performance about plastic pollution. We will have an early lunch and walk to the school and will be back to school by the end of the day.
