Year 3 this week

Their faces say it all!

What an amazing day we had yesterday. The children loved seeing the decorated hall and made some beautiful decorations which we have put on or under the tree. During Literacy for the rest of the week we will be focussing on Christmas inspired writing linked to The Polar Express.

In Maths this week we have just finished the end of unit 2 so will be moving on to unit 3. This still focuses on addition and subtraction.

Tomorrow afternoon we will be outside for a small amount of time so please can the children wear their forest school trousers.

Thank you 😀🎄🎅

Watch out for Mr Grinch! - 22nd November 2020

Well, what an exciting end to the week.  Mr Grinch surprised us at the school gates on Friday and he has promised to come back so that we can teach him the true meaning of Christmas.  I wonder what this week will hold?  One thing is clear - Christmas is not cancelled!  We are determined that this Christmas will be one to remember and we will teach Mr Grinch to love this time of year.  Get ready for some fun learning! See you on Monday.

Apologies, the paper copy will be coming home tomorrow!

Year 3 Home Learning

Proud of Presentation!

This week we would like you to show us your best presentation skills.  You can either complete the handwriting sheet attached to this home learning or copy out a part of your favourite story or poem.  We would like to make a display of your neatest handwriting in class.  Try using a pen if you can and remember to join your writing.  You might even like to add a border or decorate your finished work!

Mathletics Madness:

This week we have been taking part in the Mathletics Challenge, but we have been so busy in class we haven’t had time!  So, I have set you some addition and subtraction activities to try.  Your mission is to help us earn as many points as you can before Sunday.  Log onto Mathletics and see if you can earn some points and maybe get a certificate this week.  We will be handing out Mathletics trophies this week to one lucky certificate winner.

Year 3: Dogs of expeditions, subtraction and whittling!!

We've had such a busy week already! In Literacy this week we have been looking at the 69 dogs that went on the Endurance expedition. As part of their independent learning this week the children have been using the information they have learnt about the expedition to draw and annotate a timeline. They have also had to read and follow instructions to make a origami penguin! In the group work this week the children are writing diary entries as one of the dogs. 'Shackleton's Journey' by William Grill is such a beautifully illustrated book which we are looking at.

In Maths this week we have been focussing on subtraction where we have to exchange the hundreds or tens. Below is an example of what we have been doing .

We have a Mathletics challenge this week. If your child is able to access this at home that would be amazing please!

This week in Forest School I've taught the children how to whittle safely using a peeler and a knife. We spoke about knife safety and how to correctly hold the wood and the knife. The children really enjoyed this, below are a few pictures.

This morning we had a Sikh morning. Mrs Stentiford came in and gave a socially distant talk about Sikhism. This was such an interesting talk and we learnt so much about Sikhism which we then used in a collaborative project. I wonder if your child could tell you what the 5 Ks are? What happens in the Gurdwara?

More excitement to follow for the rest of the week!

A Thursday Treat! - Year 3 - 18th November 2020

As you know from your child's Marvellous Me Award the children have been working incredibly hard in earning their house points.  Having completed the latest reward section we will be having a small treat and film on Thursday afternoon this week.  We are happy for your child to bring a small toy to cuddle or a comfy jumper to wear while they watch the film.  The children will be responsible for keeping these toys to themselves rather than sharing so that we remain covid-secure.

The question is, can we reach the next reward by Christmas?

Y3: Forest school groups reminder for tomorrow

 Good evening

Just a quick blog to remind everyone that it is Gryffindor and Ravenclaw's Forest School afternoon so please can they come to school in suitable clothes. Waterproofs can be added at lunch. Everyone will need a coat please otherwise they may have to stay inside. It does look rather drizzly tomorrow.

Thank you

Mrs Thorpe
