Experimenting with Forces
Science Sessions
In our Science sessions we have enjoyed experimenting with "Forces".
We carried out two investigations - One to make a "Tin Foil Boat" that would hold as many marbles as possible. - And another: to make supports out of paper that would enable a board to become a table (able to carry additional weights).
The children were all very engaged by the activities.
I'm sure that they would enjoy telling you how they got on, what they learned, and what shapes provided the best buoyancy /or structural support.

Christmas Show Costumes -Year 3
Christmas Show Costumes - "Ebenezer"
Our Christmas Show is going to be a production of "Ebenezer".
This is a simple version of Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol.
We would like most of the children in Year 3 to be dressed in Victorian style costumes (caps, waistcoats, bonnets, pinafore-style dresses, cardigans etc).
The only exceptions to this Victorian attire are:
Natalya, Martha and Freya who are "angels"
Freddie, Olivia and Elian who are "devils"
and Sam a Victorian headmaster.
Don't worry if you have any difficulties finding something suitable,- please let us know.
Please bring costumes to school in a named plastic bag between Monday 8th and (by) Wednesday 10th December.

This week I am encouraging the children to read through the words to the songs we will be singing in our Christmas Show in a couple of weeks time. They have each been given a set of song words.
I am also encouraging the children to take part in the Christmas Decoration from "Recycled/Waste" Material Competition.
Entries for this need to be in by Thurs 11th December.

Thank you so much for your generosity!
Thank you so much to everyone that came to the Bring and Buy Sale on Wednesday. We were very grateful that so many of you donated some fantastic items that were no longer wanted.
Due to everyone's generosity on Wednesday and on the non school uniform day on the 14th of November we have raised over £340 for Children in Need!
I would like to say a big thank you to all of the staff and children that helped on the day. Well done!

Bring and Buy Sale- items needed please!
This Wednesday (26th) the Children's Voice have arranged a Bring and Buy Sale to help fundraise some more money for Children In Need.
We are hoping that you have been able to have a sort out of any unused, unwanted; toys, clothes, books etc ready for Wednesday.
Please bring any items for the Bring and Buy Sale to Mrs Thorpe in Year 1.
The hall will be open to parents from 3pm on Wednesday afternoon so that you can have a look around without your children! Then the sale will carry on until around 4.30pm (unless we have sold everything!)
Items will be reasonably priced from 20p- £2.
We hope to have lots to sell and raise as much as we possibly can for children who need our help.

New Words From "Root" Words.
Using the activity sheet provided, the children should use their knowledge of suffixes to make new words
from the "root" words they have been given.
For example:

Handwriting Focus
We are having an increased focus on our neat handwriting and the presentation of written work.
We have been encouraging children to make sure that they have an appropriate pencil grip and that they are sitting with a good posture, effectively steadying their paper/book with their non-writing hand.
Please can you reinforce this message with written work that the children carry out at home.
I am hoping to give out certificates to children who have made notable effort and progress over the next couple of weeks.
Thank you,
DM

Year 3 class assembly
I think Mr MacBean's assembly symbolised the way we try to make learning come alive at The Prince of Wales School. The children learnt lots of important historical facts and information and at the same time had lots of fun! They showed great concentration, confidence, co-operation and enthusiasm in the performance. Well done to one and all! Mr Farrington

Home Learning Year 3 – Friday 7th November
I have given the children a
"blank" map of Europe with the instruction of adding details by looking at a complete
map.
Can they find and colour in
15 of the countries?
Perhaps they could label even
more than 15.
