Y3: Reminder about tomorrow and the week ahead

I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful sunny weather!

This week we will delve deeper into our new topic of 'Jurassic coast'. The children will learn about this famous piece of coastline and learn and write about the four different types of fossils.

Tomorrow afternoon we will be doing cricket and gardening. It doesn't look like it is going to be wet so no FS clothes will be needed but the children will need their PE kits in school.

On Wednesday afternoon we will be speaking to our link school in the USA. They will have the videos that the children have made and they will be sharing their videos with us also. We can't wait to see what their town and school is like!

REMINDER

Tomorrow morning myself and Miss Johnson will be doing the Year 3 parents information session in the hall (socially distant)at 9am. We will be running through everything we hope to cover this term but will mostly focus on next terms Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) content. If you are not able to make the session in the morning there will be a parent leaflet going home about this and knowledge content being covered in the other lessons are shown in the knowledge organisers.

If you have any questions about the above please do email either myself (Mrs Thorpe) or Miss Johnson. I apologise if I have not emailed back recently but my internet signal at home isn't playing ball! I will have this sorted this week.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow

Mrs Thorpe 😀

Young Artists Royal Academy Summer Exhibition - Last Call for Submissions

You may remember back in March, our last Lockdown #InspiredToLearn Challenge was all about Art!  If you did want to get involved I will need to submit your work before Monday 26th April.  Please email a jpeg of your artwork with a description by Friday 23rd April to be included.

Here is the information just in case you missed it!

 A #InspiredToLearn Artistic Opportunity

Now in its third year, the Young Artists’ Summer Show is a free, open submission exhibition for students aged 5 - 19 studying in the UK and British schools overseas. Artworks are judged by artists and arts professionals with selected artworks displayed online and on-site at the Royal Academy of Arts.

We just had to get involved!

Have a look at last year’s exhibition to get #InspiredToLearn:

What is The Royal Academy Young Artists Summer Show?

Artists are at the heart of everything at the Royal Academy of Arts – they’ve been championing them since 1768 and firmly believe in nurturing young talent and celebrating the next generation of artists.

Taking inspiration from the annual Summer Exhibition, the Young Artists’ Summer Show is an opportunity for young artists aged 5 - 19 years to exhibit their work online and on-site at the Royal Academy.

The project is generously supported by Robin Hambro, a passionate advocate for the importance of access to art, and the benefits of encouraging the arts, for children and young people.

A panel of passionate and award-winning artists and arts professionals work together each year to select artworks to exhibit online and on-site at the Royal Academy.

Your artwork could be among those the judges select this year!

How do I enter?

We are registered as a school and you can submit up to 3 pieces of artwork, these can be works of art created at home or in school, in the past or something you are working on currently.  They can also be collaborative pieces that have been created by you with support of a group of other children.  There is no set theme or media for your artwork - It can be a painting, sculpture, photograph, installation, video, drawing, or a combination.

For each artwork submission you will need a jpeg image/s of the artwork along with details including a title, medium and a short description, child’s name and age.  Please see the attached guide for taking your photos.

Send your photos to a.johnson@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk

Please also complete the attached permission form and hand in to the school office.  Your picture will then be submitted by us and you will receive confirmation via a return email from us and everyone who submits work will hear from the Royal Academy by the end of May.

The closing date for submissions is 26th April 2021

The full terms and conditions are available on the Royal Academy Website.

What happens next?

Your artwork will be seen by a panel of judges and the selected pieces will be shown in our online exhibition. Some of the artworks will also be selected to be shown at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

Prizes

Prizes are awarded each year for two inspiring artworks from each key stage, as chosen by the President of the Royal Academy, and you can also vote for your favourite artwork in The Royal Academy’s annual People’s Choice Award.

Are you ready to be...

Year 3: Summer term here we come!

The Summer term is here and we have some inspiring learning opportunities! Tomorrow we have the 'Big Bang' which we will share the photos from. We also start our Jurassic Coast topic. We will be learning about fossils and Mary Anning. We'll share this information with our friends in America.

Thank you for the few videos we have had in. There is still time to share videos with me about Dorchester.

The Big pedal starts tomorrow and so we will be collecting data about children that cycle or scoot to school.

This week there will be no Forest School, I will update the blog for next week when you will need this.

Just a reminder that breakfast and after school club is no longer in the classroom.
Our classroom door will be open from 8.45am, if the door isn't open please do not open it as the staff inside will do this as soon as they are ready.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
Hats, suncream (that can be kept at school) and water bottles are encouraged during this term.

See you tomorrow!
