Year 3 -Learning our lines for next week's assembly

We are hoping that the children will have managed to learn their lines for their Class Assembly next Friday 10th November. Well done to those children who have already done this, but the majority need to have a bit more practice. Today we have given all the children an extra copy of their "lines" just in case the last copy has been misplaced.
Many thanks,
Y3 Team

Year 3 Exciting Writing (wk 8 / - 6.10.17)

This week the children in Year 3 will be writing the story of “Jack Spice” and his adventures as a sailor (in the sixteenth century).
This is tied in with our class assembly at 9.20 am on Friday 10th November.
Our writing will follow the “The Big Write” approach; where we are using drama to set out the story and encouraging the children to spend time talking over their ideas for their writing at home beforehand.  The story will be in the form of some diary entries at different stages of Jack’s adventures.
There are various chapters in his adventures:
Being tricked on board the ship.
Learning to become a sailor.
Sailing around the World with Francis Drake.
The mutiny!

Battle with the Spanish Armada.

Home Learning - Year 3 Thurs 19th October

Year 3 “Home Learning        -week of  Thursday 19th October

1.    Over the half-term holiday, we would like the children to practise their lines (see attached) for our Class Assembly next half-term.
Just to remind you that the Assembly is on Friday 10th November at 9.20am.

2.     Write a review for a book that you have read and enjoyed recently.  Make sure that you include these things:
·     Why you enjoyed the book
·     What the book is about (plot, characters, setting for fiction books – content , organisational features for non-fiction books)

                                                                          Thank you, Mr. MacBean

Apologies from Mr. MacBean for missing Parent Consultations

Dear Parents,
I am sorry that I was unable to attend Parent Consultations on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. I was feeling poorly and needed to spend time in bed recovering.
Can I suggest that we keep the appointment times for the week back after the half-term holiday; so that's Tuesday 31st and Wednesday 1st?
I appreciate that this will not be convenient to everyone (-You may have Halloween plans!), so if you find that you cannot make the day and time prearranged on the Tues or Weds, I will also be available on the Thursday evening (2nd Nov) from 5.00 -6.30 pm. I will put a "signing-up-list" on the wall in the classroom. Please cross out your name from the other list if you choose to change to the Thursday.
Warm regards,
Duncan MacBean

Year 3 - Uniform, Yes or No?

Next week, the children in Year 3 will be having a debate about whether they think that school uniform is a good idea or not. We will be considering reasons for and against having uniforms and arranging our ideas into appropriate paragraphs.
It would be great if you could start this discussion at home.                                     DM

Year 3 Counting in French

The children in Year 3 have been learning to count in French.
Perhaps they could have some time practising this at home.

"What's the Point?"

In order to inspire our young learners and to enable them to understand how their literacy skills are so important, we are launching a "What's the point" project! It's simple - please could you send a photograph of yourself or a family member using literacy skills in the work place (writing as well as reading). Your child's class teacher will aim to show a different one before literacy lessons to spark discussion and to contextualise writing as well as inspiring them to foster a love for writing. We would also like to display these picture as well as use them on blogs and on the school Facebook page, so please make the teacher aware if you do not wish this to happen with your photograph.
Thank you in advance for your support in this fun project - the children will really enjoy seeing your pictures!!!!!

Year 3 - Writing about Bicycles

This week in our English Lessons, we will be using the theme of “Bicycles” to develop our writing.
The children will collect facts about bicycles and group these facts into sections or paragraphs. A non-chronological report set out like this is more useful to the reader and easier to read.

Do make sure you have a look at our written work.

Soil and Rocks
Find a cupful of soil. Have a close look at it. (Perhaps you could use a magnifying glass?)                                    - WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER HANDLING SOIL.
What do you think soil is made from? Can you find out?

Why do you think different soils can be different colours; some are redder, some are browner, etc?

Can you find the name of SIX different types of rock?   (eg, Chalk)

Year 3 Adventure Morning

Some of the children in Year 3 went for a trip today in the minibus.
They visited some interesting places and had fun doing some outdoor learning.

We are working hard.
Here we are looking at the differences in an old photo from 1940 and what is there today.

But was the best part of the trip playing in the playground?......

.....,or eating an ice-lolly on the minibus?
