Half Term Hello! - 29th October 2020

 Hello Year 3!

Wow, it was such a busy half term with so much incredible learning going on that we've only just got around to writing a blog!  We hope that you are having lots of half term fun at home and also looking forward a little bit to coming back to school next week.  We have been busy changing things around a bit in the year 3 classroom and giving everyone new spaces to sit in.  We like to keep you on your toes and also give you the chance to work with lots of different friends in your class.

We now have the tiered seating in a more useable space and still have a quiet area for working with an adult.  Here is a sneak peak at what the new classroom looks like (please excuse the boxes and bags on the tables - they won't be there on Monday):

As you can see, the class toys have been helping us get ready.  They will be back on their high shelves to keep an eye on all of the learning going on next half term as we get busy with our polar exploration topic (and finish our Rainforest topic off with a fabulous online assembly).

We can't wait to see you all on Monday!

Take Care

Whole School Design Challenge - 15th October 2020

#InspiredToLearn Half Term Holiday Design Challenge

“Lest We Forget”

This half term holiday we would like you to have a go at making your own single poppy, we will attach these to a wreath that we will be making in school.  The wreath will be placed at the town war memorial by some of our older children after half term as an act of remembrance for all those that gave their lives in conflict.

Design Specification:

- Your Poppy can be made of any material, clay, cardboard, felt, polymer clay, paper, recycled materials, etc.

- Your Poppy should be 3D, rather than flat.

- Your Poppy must be bigger than 5cm but smaller than 12cm in width.

- Your Poppy does not have to be red, in recent years we have used other colours to represent other groups of people who have given their lives in service of our country.  You could research these groups and decide what colour you would like to make.

- Your Poppy could have a loop or hook which will enable it to be attached easily to our wreath.

- Please write your name and year group neatly somewhere on your Poppy.

Please hand your Poppy in to your class teacher by Wednesday 4th November for its inclusion on our collaborative act of remembrance.

Parents Evenings - 15th October 2020

Thank you to all of you who signed up to come along to this week's parents evening appointments.  It was a new experience running our parents evening by Zoom, and despite a few hitches I think it also had its benefits!  It was lovely to speak with you all about your amazing children.

Apologies for the late notice regarding today's postponed face to face meetings.  Mrs Thorpe will look forward to catching up with you after half term.

A quick reminder that if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email us on the usual addresses or speak to a member of the year 3 team before or after school.

Off on a Polar Expedition

Our new topic when we return to school is all about Polar Exploration.  In the past many people have explored the polar regions of the Earth.  Can you find out more about them?

What were their names and where did they come from?

Which polar region did they explore?

What made them travel to such dangerous places?

Would you like to go on a similar adventure?

Make a poster about your favourite polar explorer and include lots of interesting facts about them.

Quick Quiz:

Over half term can you achieve the triple?  Tick each box as you complete the challenges.

  •  Level up on Times Table Rockstars.

  • Earn a Mathletics Certificate.

  • Reach the top of your sunflower on AR Reading?

Design Challenge:

Please have a go at the whole school design challenge for Remembrance Day.

Week 7: Year 3 learning this week...

This week in Year 3 we are finishing off learning about the Rainforest. The children have written letters expressing their concerns about the impact of deforestation. This week they will be writing these up in neat. Due to unforeseen circumstances our class assembly is going to be rescheduled for after half term.

We have an exciting day tomorrow with Jamie Knight in! We can't wait for this workshop and will share some pictures of this.

Parents evening this week is on Tuesday (zoom and phone calls with Miss Johnson) and Thursday (socially distanced with Mrs Thorpe).

Any questions please feel free to email us or ask a member of the Year 3 team on the doors in the morning.

Wonderful Work Warning - 8th October 2020

Keep your eyes peeled for some amazing home learning from year 3.  We have been blown away by the standard of work produced for this week and last week's challenge.  We will be sharing some pictures tomorrow.  Well done for the amazing effort, the level of detail is fantastic and our classroom looks great!

Year 3 - Resilient Learners - 8th October 2020

We have been stretching our Resilience Learning Power this week.  We are getting used to being challenged and understanding that it is good to get stuck and be challenged by our learning.

You may have seen Reggie Awards on Marvellous Me.  Being Resilient means that we are focused on our learning; we persevere even when it is hard; we notice things that might help us; always have a go and we don't mind if we get things wrong and can manage distractions to keep ourselves in "The Zone" to give us the best learning experiences.
Well done if you have received a Resilient Tortoise award.  Keep working hard and remember you will get there as long as you keep trying.
If you look carefully you might find Reggie around school reminding us of how we can be resilient in our learning.

Magical Mathletes

Another fantastic resource that we have available to use in school and at home is Mathletics.  We know that you are all familiar with this from year 1 and 2, but we would like to relaunch it with you this week. (Well done to those of you who have already earned certificates this term).  To log on to Mathletics go to mathletics.co.uk and type in your username and password.  You will see that we have set you some Place Value activities to get you started.  As you answer questions, you earn coins, just like TTRS.  Use your coins to buy new outfits and backgrounds for your avatar.  All while you practice your maths skills.  Let’s see how many certificates we can earn in year 3 this week!  Special prizes await those that take part in the great Mathletics Challenge!  If you have problems accessing the online content, I have included some worksheet activities to have a go at.

Quick Quiz:

Persuasive Parrot has been working in year 3 this week and has taught us all about the language of persuasion.  Fill in the speech bubble to persuade Mr Spracklen of something that is really important to you that you would like to do in school.  Try and think of something that you think would make the school even better!
