Year 3 - Successful visit to St. Mary's Church

The Y3s had a very successful visit to the local St. Mary's Church on Friday. We were met there by Rev. Jo Haine who talked to us about the church and some of its special features. The children took part in a "photo orienteering" activity inside the church, -trying to find lots of things in the church on the photographs that I had taken a then plot these on a map.
The children behaved very well and shown lots of interest and enthusiasm.
Well done

Fun at Cranborne A.T.C.

In spite of the bizarre weather conditions (sunshine one minute, snowy hail the next) we had a fantastic day at Cranborne Ancient technology Centre yesterday. The children showed lots of interest and enthusiasm and behaved really well. We did lots of interest things. I do hope your children have told you all about it.
Thank you to the "grown-ups" that came along for the day to help us and to make this visit possible. I hope you enjoyed it too.

Aiya and Joshua for their great "animal riddles",
Mable for her terrific progress in swimming.

Home learning Friday 22nd April

Year Three-  Home Learning          Friday 22nd April

I have asked the children to find out about and write about “Animals”. They have been asked to choose at least one animal to focus on (but more if they wish). Their work should include pictures/diagrams. The activity sheets provided should remind them of the sorts of things their work should include.
Thank you for your support,
Duncan MacBean

10 green bottles...

You may have noticed that the plastic bottle greenhouse is nearing completion - we now need more plastic bottles to help complete the roof. Please bring bottles into school to either Mr Gibson (R class) or Mrs Webb (Yr 2).
Thank you!

Big Pedal - Starts Monday 18th April

Just a reminder that we are taking part in "The Big Pedal" again this year. We would like to encourage as many children as possible to come to school on their bicycles and scooters.
The competition lasts for the next two weeks.
In the last two years, the Prince of Wales School as achieved a very high percentage of scooterists and cyclists. We are hoping to achieve the same again in the competition this year.
Parents who scoot or cycle with their children can also earn points for the school.

Year 3 Home Learning Friday 15th April

Home learning - I have asked the children to write a riddle, - stating appropriate facts and “revealing them gradually”.

Like in this example:
What Am I?
I am about 15-

25cm long.
I build a large leafy nest by a tree or wall.
As an adult I live alone.
I can live in the countryside or the town.
I am usually nocturnal.
The cold is my worst enemy, then it’s motor cars.
Animals don’t harm me.
I eat snails, earthworms and insects.
I hibernate so I eat a lot in Autumn.
I am often covered in fleas.
To protect myself I roll into a prickly ball.

Look what we found!

An assembly visit from 'Iron Man!'

A very exciting assembly on Wednesday, when 'Iron Man' made a visit to The Prince of Wales School!

The school have been focussing upon building our Learning Powers and our current particular focus is ' Resilience'. Iron Man presented the school with a knitted turtle which is our school mascot for 'resilience'. In class this week the children have been working upon how to 'grow our resilience' within their individual learning.
'Being absorbed', 'managing distractions' around them and 'persevering' are key areas we have all been thinking about developing with each others' help.
