Mathletics at home during the half-term holiday

We would like to encourage the children in Year 3 to spend some time working on "Mathletics" using the computer at home during the holiday.
If at all possible, we would be grateful if you could remind them about this.

Home Learning Year Three – Summer Half-Term Holiday.

The “Fiver Challenge”

See below   Plan your ideas for the “Fiver Challenge”

The Young Enterprise “Fiver Challenge”.
“-a fun way of introducing financial literacy, resilience and teamwork to primary school pupils”
The Challenge:

Children have one month to set up a mini business and create a product or service they can sell or deliver at a profit and engage with their local community.
How it works:

1.     You use the half-term holiday to plan your ideas to present to your team in class.

2.     We decide which projects are going to be developed.

3.     We give you a “Fiver”.

4.     Your team uses this start-up capital to get their enterprise off the ground.

5.     You have a month to make as much profit as possible, whilst also aiming to engage the local community

6.     At the end of the month, the original “fiver” is paid back. Any profits can be spent on an activity at school (chosen by the children).

Home Learning - Year 3 , Friday 20th May

-  Response to a “story introduction”.

The children have been asked to write the next part of the story, following on from this introduction:

I was feeling very odd when I woke up this morning. I was strangely hot and felt as if I wanted to scratch myself. When my alarm clock went off it actually scared me, and I leapt out of bed. I landed lightly on my feet.

When I looked into my bedroom mirror I couldn’t believe what I saw.
Could this be possible?
I had turned into a chimpanzee!!!

Beach safety assembly - Thursday 12th May

We welcomed the RNLI into school on Thursday 12th May. Ben and Maria came into school to explain to the school about how we can be safe on the beach and in the sea.

The children learned that the red and yellow flag is the flag which lets us know it is safe to go into the water. They also learned about other flags which mean danger possibly for different reasons.

The children brought home leaflets on Friday from the RNLI. Do have a look with your child at the key messages, they were all very interested.

BSO concert - parents free?

I am after two parents who can come along on Weds 18th May in the morning to Poole Lighthouse (to watch with a group of Year 3 and 4 children from our school) the Bournemouth Symphony orchestra.

We plan to be back at school around 12.30. If you are able to help then please come and either see me or pass on the message via the office.

Many thanks,  Mrs Mewett

Home learning - Friday 13th May

The children have been asked to write a set of accurate instructions that will enable someone to draw  a 2D shape that they have been given.  The shape must be the correct size too. We have had a bit of a practice at this in class.
(This is clearer to understand when you see the "activity sheet", - hopefully.)

Fun at the DMS Y3 Athletics Festival

The children in Year 3 had fun at the DMS Y3 Athletics Festival today. They worked in teams with children from other local 1st Schools, taking part in a variety of running, throwing and jumping activities. We were  lucky the weather - and had a great time.
Our thanks to the Y7 Sports Leaders who looked after us so well and to Mr. Treble for coordinating the event.

Well done to those children who have designed Cycle Helmet posters as a "home learning" activity.

Learning in the Life Education Van

Today the Year 3 children had their visit to the Life Education Van. We learned about the importance of the brain and discussed ways to live healthy life styles.
The children were all very attentive and enthusiastic.

It would be great if the children could visit this website:
www.lifeeducationwessex.org.uk
They may also like to send Harold (the giraffe) an email at the following address:
harold@lifeeducationwessex.org.uk

Health and safety week 9th -13th May

The children will be exploring aspects of staying safe and being healthy over the next week in class. We will be welcoming visitors to the school; RNLI will be visiting to run a Beach safety assembly with tips and key messages about being safe. We also are welcoming the Safer School Team who will be running sessions with each class about staying safe when online at age appropriate level. We also have the Life Education van in school on Tues and Weds (10th and 11th) and each class will access a session based upon the PSHE curriculum for their class. In class, the children will be talking about road safety as well as being healthy and linking this to their science topics.

Lastly, on Friday 20th May each class will be accessing children appropriate levels of first aid training kindly offered by St John's ambulance. Yr 4 will be running through the programme and hopefully completing the course for a certificate!

If you do have questions or some skills or time to offer do speak with the year team.

Thank you, Mrs Mewett
