Home Learning Year 3 – Friday 24th June

Home Learning Year 3 – Friday 24th June

“Imaginary Worlds”
Write the beginning (and beyond, if you like) to a story set in a different World or Planet. Try to use lots of interesting and imaginative description to create the setting for the story.

Your story could begin like this:

Cautiously we stepped down from the spaceship, not knowing what adventures lay ahead of us.
…You don’t have to write the whole story.

Year 3 Upwey/Radipole trip next Monday (27th June) and Friday (1st July)

Dear Parents,

The children have been allocated one of the dates; - either Monday or Friday. We would be very grateful to any parents who would like to join us for the trips, and especially grateful to anyone who can drive their car and take a couple of children (and another adult) with them.
Many thanks,

Dear Parents,
I'm sorry for any confusion about whether Friday (Summer Fayre day) was a uniform or non-uniform day. Please can the children wear school uniform as usual.

New Revised Date for Year 3 and 4 Sports Morning = Monday 4th July

The revised date for Yr 3 and 4 sports morning is Monday 4th July, beginning at 9.20am. Many thanks for your patience in finding a second date in a very busy last few weeks of term. We wanted to have a revised date for the older children as they prepare so well for this event  and love  "Sports Morning", so fingers crossed the weather holds out a second time!

Year 3 Swimming Gala - Thursday 23rd June

Year 3 Swimming Gala -  Thursday 23rd June

On Thursday we will be having a simple and fun "Swimming Gala" instead of our normal Swimming lesson. This will take place during the time of the lesson, so the children will come to the Swimming pool as they usually do (with all the same equipment as usual). We will hold as many races as possible, demonstrating the stokes we have been learning and the progress that has been made.
Parents and Grandparents are welcome to come along to watch the Gala. The Leisure Centre have given us permission for you to sit by the side of the little pool. You will be allowed in from 9.00am.

The Queen's tea party 10/6/16

We had a lovely whole school Queen’s tea party on Friday 10th June. Preschool also joined us for this event, the whole school stood and sang the National anthem, and of course ‘ Happy Birthday’ too before tucking into the delicious cakes you all generously sent in.

Unfortunately then the rain paid us a visit, however before long we were able to venture back outside to complete the event by playing some ‘Royal based party games.

I would like to thank all the Yr 3 and 4 pupils for being so helpful in collecting tables and chairs from across the school supported by our adultsto enable the event to happen. The children were also very helpful in supporting the younger children at the tea party. It really showed off the ‘service’ element within our school community, helping others where we can.

Year Three Progress Assessments - Week of Monday 13th June

Year Three Progress Assessments  -  Week of Monday 13th June
Next week the children in Year 3 will be carrying out some assessments in English, Maths and Science. They will be asked to complete a booklet in each of these areas.

We will be delivering these assessments in an encouraging and positive way and making the process as enjoyable as possible; we do, however, need the children to work with a necessary level of independence in line with other schools that are taking these tests.
The purpose of these assessments is to help us to track the children’s progress and achievement, they are also useful in ensuring learning is matched appropriate to their needs.

Home learning Year 3 – Friday 10th June

Soil and Rocks                 - see the activity sheet

(a bit of revision of work we did in the early Autumn Term)
Find a cupful of soil. Have a close look at it.
(Perhaps you could use a magnifying glass if you have one?)
What do you think soil is made from? Can you find out?
Why do you think different soils can be different colours; some are redder, some are browner?
Can you find the name of SIX different types of rock?   (eg, Chalk)

Cakes for our Queen's Birthday Party (Year 3 Reminder)

I hope that this is not the first time that you've got this message,- if so I'm sorry, I'm probably leaving it a bit late! However, tomorrow afternoon we are hoping to have a bit of a celebration for Queen Elizabeth's Birthday. The children will be having some cakes and a drink.
We would be very grateful if you could help by providing some of the cakes.
Many Thanks,
Duncan MacBean
