Year Three - Written work on display

As promised, we have put some of children's written work about their "Class Adventure to Upwey, Portesham and Abbotsbury" on display outside the school hall.
All of the children in the class have done a report in their Written Work book, but I have selected some children's work to be photocopied and put on the display board.
Please do come to take a look at this work to find out more about our class trip - and to see the hard-work the children are putting into their writing.

Year 3 - Successful Trips to find out about local rocks and the Abbotsbury Railway

The children in Year 3 enjoyed their trips out on Monday and Friday when we found out about local rocks and the Abbotsbury Railway. We went to lots of different places of interest over the course of the day. For more information, we intend to put a display of the children's work. (I'll let you know when that is ready.)
Our sincere thanks to the parents who came along to help out on the two days. I hope you enjoyed yourselves too. A special "Thank you" for Odette's Dad, Thomas, for driving today.

The children were able to compare some old photographs taken of the Abbotsbury Railway with what is there today.
Our last stop was at Hardy's Monument (made from stone from Portesham Quarry - where we had our picnic).

Following our “Poetry Focus” this week, we are asking the children in Year 3 to have a go at “learning a short poem off-by-heart”.  They have had a look at various different types of poem this week and can now choose one from any style that they wish
(- including one of their own creations).

Fun at the South Dorset Ridgeway Project Festival of Schools.

On Tuesday we had fun at the South Dorset Ridgeway Project Festival of Schools. Mr. MacBean took a selection of Year 3 and Year 4 children to represent the school and to take part in the festival held at Little Bredy. We had a chance to take part in a number of interesting workshops and find out about the fascinating heritage of our local landscape.

Year Three Home Learning Activity (9.9.16)

   Year Three "Home Learning"
Friday 9th September (for next Friday)

 1.     Following on from the work we did in class - create an informative poster to show “Rocks Are Really Useful”. Your poster should include labelled pictures/diagrams of some of things we use in our daily lives that are made from rocks.

 2.   Stone buildings can last a very long time. For an extra “Home Learning” activity this week, perhaps you could find the names of some famous buildings around the World that are over 1000 years old.

Year 3 "Spellings- Home Learning"

Year Three  -  Spelling “Home Learning”                 (7.9.16)

Every Wednesday, we will be sending the children home with “Spelling Lists”. This will be a sheet of paper with 4 lists on it. The children will have a “test/quiz” on the words from the lists on the following Wednesday.

The children should choose 2 lists that they feel they need to learn and should only be learning 2 lists from the selection of four. In other words, if they are learning the words on lists 3 and 4 then that is because they are confident that they can already manage the words on lists 1 and 2.

Children in the past have enjoyed this approach.

Spare copies of the “Spelling Lists” are available in the tray by the classroom door.

Year 3 Class Charter

Today the children in Year 3 had a discussion about our classroom rules. They had to decide on some simple rules to help us to learn effectively and happily.

We have collected their ideas and simplified them into these 6 rules:

Year Three Class Charter

Be the 7 Cs and think the 7 Cs.
We treat everyone with kindness and respect.
We do our best, even when it’s hard.

We listen carefully to everyone.

We work and play fairly and include everyone.
We enjoy ourselves by doing the right thing.

Swimming Lesson - Year Three - Thursday 8th September

Year Three Swimming - Our first Swimming lesson is this week on Thursday 8th September.

The children in Year 3 have their first Swimming Lesson this Thursday.

We will be leaving the classroom to walk to the pool at 8.30 am, so all children who would like to walk up to the pool with us must arrive at school by that time.
For any children who live near to the pool who would like to meet us there, please wait outside the entrance so that we can all go in together at 8.45.
Children will all need their swimming costumes, a towel and a swimming hat. Goggles are optional.
Please can girls wear a one-piece costume (rather than a bikini-style costume). Boys should wear swimming shorts or trunks (rather than Bermuda-style shorts). We are able to provide children with arm-bands and swimming "biscuits" if they need them, but they are welcome to bring their own if they wish.

If you have any concerns please contact me.
Many thanks,
Duncan MacBean
