Year 3 Working with the RSPB

This week, the children have had an enjoyable and interesting time working in the school grounds with Emma Stephens from the R.S.P.B. She was ably assisted by Sue Howes and our special friend Peter Farrington.

On Tuesday, the children explored the mini-beasts and other wildlife in the school’s “Garden” area. They used identification sheets to find the names of lots of different little animals.

On Friday we ventured into the school’s pond and did some “habitat management”, which involved clearing the pond of excess plant-life to open up a larger area of clear water. We also had fun doing some pond-dipping and discovered lots of aquatic life in the pond, including lots of newts.
There are lots of pictures of us working with the RSPB in the Year 3 Gallery.

Year 3 Home Learning - Poetry Wednesday 26th April

Year 3 Home Learning   -  Poetry               Wednesday 26th April

Can you make up a poem about a monster where you describe the monster using things that you don’t like?

This is the monster

I made up last week.

A monster so scary

I’m now losing sleep!

It has…

Make a list of things that you don’t like.

Then put these into the poem about a monster.
barbed-wire , stinging nettles , fire alarms,

land-mines, wasp-stings, bullies, burnt toast,

getting a library fine,  getting a puncture on my bike,

having an argument

 Here’s an example:

It has barbed-wired feet

And stinging nettle arms

When singing it sounds

Like our school fire alarms

It has landmines for eyes

And a wasp sting nose

It has bullies for fingers

And burnt toast for toes

It has library fines for teeth

And flat tyres for eyes

It sounds like an argument

Whenever it cries.

My poem uses rhyme, but yours does not have to.                            DM

A change into "outdoor working clothes" on Friday 28th Year 3 and Year4

A change into "outdoor working clothes" on Friday 28th Year 3 and Year4
This Friday afternoon, the children in Year 3 and Year 4 are going to be working with  the R.S.P.B. Outreach Team. We are going to be doing some work clearing out the school's pond. This is likely to be a bit messy, so we ask that the children bring a change of clothes (or, at least, "bottom half") and some suitable footwear,- preferably "wellies".
Any parents that would like to join us for the afternoon would be very welcome. Please contact Mr. MacBean or Mrs Johnson.
Many Thanks

Year 3 - Fun looking at Wildlife with the RSPB

Today the children had fun finding out about wildlife in the school grounds with some expert volunteers from the R.S.P.B. We found a wide variety of mini-beasts and also learned to look for evidence of squirrels and mice.
On Friday we will have a look at the wildlife in the school pond.

Lovely sunny morning for Year 3 Farm Visit (7.4..17)

The children in Year 3 enjoyed their visit to Maiden Castle Farm this morning. They were able to go into the lambing shed and see lots of baby lambs.

Our thanks to Hazel for inviting us along again and teaching us all about the busy time around the farm in the Spring. Thank you too to those parents who were able to come along to help.

There are lots more photographs in the Year 3 Gallery.

Year Three- Home Learning (over the Easter Holiday) Wed 5th April

Year Three-  Home Learning  (over the Easter Holiday)        Wed 5th April

I have asked the children to find out about and write about an “Animal”.
They have been asked to choose one animal to focus on.

Their work should include pictures/diagrams, as well as some writing.
It could be presented in any appropriate way (- poster, reference text, power point)

(Try to avoid copying directly from a reference source.)

Thank you for your support,

Mathematics - Year 3 Data Handling

This week in our Mathematics lessons we are looking at ways in which information can be presented using charts, graphs and diagrams. This is also a key element of the Science Curriculum for Year 3.
