Year Three use the school's new Chromebooks

Today the children in Year Three tried out the school's new Chromebooks for the first time. This was really successful! The children were able to login and be busy at their activities independently and very quickly.

Year Three - Home Learning Wednesday 25th April

I have given the children in Year 3 a Mathematics Activity for their "home learning" this week.
They have a number of "worded" questions to solve relating to time and measurement.

Bi Pedal Starts Next Week!

Don't forget that the "Big Pedal" starts next week - and continues for a fortnight, ending on the 4th May. We are hoping that as many children as possible will come to school on scooters and bicycles.
This is a national initiative, run by "Sustrans", aimed at promoting healthy living and getting young people into cycling and scooting.
Each day we will be making a tally of how we all got to school. This will be logged on a national data base and we will be able to see how we get on compared to other schools.

Year 3 and Year 4 Recipe Competition

Love Food, Hate Waste!
Today the children in Year 3 and 4 had a special assembly given by Kirsten from "Dorset Waste Partnership" and her friendly side-kick Sammy Strawberry.
Kirsten has set the children the challenge of entering a competition:
To create a delicious recipe for a meal made from Summer leftovers.
The children will need to write out their recipe (handwritten is preferred), take a photograph of the meal that they have made - and then bring this to school by Friday 11th May
All entries should include a name, the name of the year group and school.
Their are some fantastic prizes available for the winners and there is a certificate for all entries.
The winners will have their recipes added to a set of professionally printed recipe cards in a special booklet. As well as this, the overall could win £200 worth of cooking equipment for the school!
Mr. MacBean, Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Spracklen are looking forward to seeing you entries.

Year 3 Sun Safe

A reminder to the children in Year 3 to bring sun hats, and sun cream to school - both name-labelled please. Don't forget your water-bottle, so that you can top it up regularly.

Year 3 Home Learning - Poetry Wednesday 18th April

Can you make up a poem about a monster where you describe the monster using things that you don’t like?

This is the monster
I made up last week.
A monster so scary
I’m now losing sleep!

It has…
Make a list of things that you don’t like.

Then put these into the poem about a monster.
barbed-wire , stinging nettles , fire alarms,

land-mines, wasp-stings, bullies, burnt toast,

getting a library fine,  getting a puncture on my bike,

having an argument

Here’s an example:

It has barbed-wired feet
And stinging nettle arms
When singing it sounds
Like our school fire alarms

It has landmines for eyes
And a wasp sting nose
It has bullies for fingers
And burnt toast for toes

It has library fines for teeth
And flat tyres for eyes
It sounds like an argument
Whenever it cries.

My poem uses rhyme, but yours does not have to.

Year Three - Learning "Times Tables"

The children in Year 3 have started the week with some "Multiplication Maths".
We will be continuing with this theme throughout the week.
It is really important for all of the children to challenge themselves with learning their "Times Tables" as well as they possibly can.
