Year 3: World Book Day and face paints...

Just a quick note to say that if possible could we please not have face paints and glitter for world book day as the children will be swimming in the afternoon. If their costume depends on the face paint then this will need to be wiped off before swimming.

Also, with this in mind if your child's costume is large and maybe made of cardboard could you make sure they have some clothes to change into to go to the swimming pool.

We will do our book swap before we go to the pool.

Thank you

Simulation: Advantages and Disadvantages

In Computing with Mr Spracklen today we considered the advantages and disadvantages of computer simulations.

We finished the lesson by having a go on this '🦊 PREDATOR-PREY ECOSYSTEM 🐰' simulator -

Y3: Reading books

Please could we have AR books in school everyday. The children read in school everyday and we have lots of children saying their AR books are at home.

Please can these come into school in a book bag, everyday.

Thank you

Come and join your child on Friday at 3.10pm for a story in the library. I will be reading a couple of stories which the children will choose throughout the week. You can then spend some time in the library choosing books to take home. The children will be going home at the normal time of 3.30pm

Welcome back- key information about the half term ahead...

It was lovely to see the children this morning and hear about their half terms. This week they have been making compound sentences in English and have been working on multiplication sums in Maths. This has turned out to be quiet tricky for a lot of the children, so with this in mind this weeks home learning is to work through a set of multiplication sums.

Here is an example below of how to work through the questions

Some children have come home with an Edshed login. When I have launched this with the rest of the class on Monday, I will put a blog out about it and how to use this at home.

We have a busy couple of weeks coming up so I just wanted to put all the dates together in one area for you all.

  • Thursday 2nd- World Book Day. Children to come dressed as a character or author. Also to bring an old book that they want to swap. Stories read by the teachers everyday after school in the library.
  • Friday 3rd- Pants Day. Pantosaurus will be about and we will be learning about the code and why this is important. If you want to decorate the pants and give them to the office by Wednesday 1st then you can.
  • Friday 17th March- Comic Relief. Children to have piece of clothing that is red or dress as their hero (remember not all heroes wear capes). Cake sale after school, donations of cakes welcome for this as long as ingredients are listed.
  • Monday 20th- Dr Bike visiting. Children can get an MOT on their bike.
  • Friday 24th March- 9.20am in the school hall will be our class assembly.

Any questions about the above please feel free to email me or if I have missed anything!

Year 3: Enjoy your half term!

We hope you all have a lovely half term. Apologies, some children don't have their home learning wallets or reading records, we forgot to hand these out to the children that were picked up from the swimming pool.

Over half term we haven't assigned any spellings or home learning. We think it's important that they have a rest. Reading a little everyday and practicing times tables would be fantastic though. TTRS can be accessed from home, as can purplemash and Mathletics.

Have a great week and we'll see you all on the 20th February

Year 3 Home learning

Home learning this week is set on PurpleMash. We've asked the children to write a poem about how to look after our environment.

TeachRex- The AMAZING Jam!

Wow what an inspiring day we have had! This morning we had a visit from Jam the T-Rex and what a creature he was!!!

Jam was the dinosaur that took our egg and it hatched into Skye...

With the TeachRex teachers, the children were able to take part in green screen technology and make their own film where they had to run away from a dinosaur.

These videos were made using the app Do Ink (ipad).

We were also lucky enough to meet Cosmo

After meeting the dinosaurs, the children wrote expanded noun phrases to describe their features.
For example:

Jam had feathery, scaly skin and yellow, beady eyes.

Thank you so much to the Teachers from TeachRex, the children were so engaged and mesmerised by the visitors and all of their knowledge. What a fantastic way to learn Science!

The children have been writing amazingly all week! We have now finished writing our newspaper reports and everyone is very proud of their work. Tomorrow, the children will choose a piece of writing to put on display.

Thank you to everyone who has come to parents evening this week. If you have any questions from these or would like to get in touch then please do feel free to email me on b.thorpe@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk or catch me on the door.
