Desperately seeking Mystery Readers

Dear Parents, Carers, Grandparents, Older Siblings and Relatives,

We are still looking for a few Mystery Readers to join us next week on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday at 3:10pm.

The children absolutely love this special activity and are always so excited to discover who will be reading to them. We would be delighted if you were able to come in and share a book of your choice — or I would be very happy to provide one for you.

If you are available to be one of our Mystery Readers, please do let me know and I will add you to the list.

Thank you so much,
Ms Browne

Welcome Back to Spring 2

Hello everyone,

Year 3 have had a wonderful first week back for Spring Term 2. We were even lucky enough to enjoy some sunshine during playtime and PE on Wednesday!

In Science, we have begun our new topic on Light. The children have loved using light meters and exploring what can be seen in the presence  and absence of light using our ‘bear caves’.

For this week’s home learning, we would like the children to continue their scientific investigations at home by identifying different light sources and finding the brightest and darkest places in their houses. A hard copy of the homework sheet will be sent home today (Friday), but here is a link in case it doesn’t make it home.

Spellings on EdShed are now live. Please encourage your child to practise next week’s spelling rule as well as their individual spelling lists. Paper copies of the spelling sheets should also be coming home today, but here are the links:

On Monday, we will begin a new English text, Cloud Tea Monkeys. As part of our introductory lesson, the children will take on the role of apprentice tea tasters and sample a small selection of teas on Monday afternoon. The quantities will be tiny, and we hope this will provide an engaging sensory experience as they explore different flavours — if they are happy to take part. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

A few reminders:
- Swimming continues on Thursdays until Easter.
- World Book Day is next Thursday.
- The Year 3 class assembly will take place on Friday 13th March.

Kind regards,
The Year 3 Team

Half term home learning and upcoming dates

Hello everyone,

We hope you are having a lovely half term break so far.

Hopefully your child brought home their home learning sheet, but just in case they didn’t, I thought it would be helpful to share the details here on the blog.

🛡 Roman Day Home Learning Challenge

Your challenge is to create a Celtic or Roman shield, ready to take into battle on our Roman Day on Friday 27th March.

Please bring completed shields into school by Monday 9th March, as we will be using them in our Year 3 assembly later that week.

We can’t wait to see your creative designs!

🎭 Year 3 Assembly

Our Year 3 assembly will now take place on Friday 13th March.

Please note that this is a change from the date shared at the parents’ information session — apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Our assembly will be based on the History topics the children have studied at POW:

  • The Victorians

  • Moon Landings

  • Trains

  • Great Fire of London

  • Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole

  • Stone Age to Iron Age

If you have any suitable costumes linked to these topics, please do get in touch.

Here be dragons

What a wonderfully dragon-filled inspired writing week we have had at the Prince of Wales School!

The children were absolutely delighted by a visit from Teach Rex, who brought Luna the dragon along for us to meet. After some inspiring storytelling from the TeachRex team, the children returned to class brimming with ideas and enthusiasm, ready to design their own unique dragons.

This provided a fantastic opportunity for oracy, with the children talking about, exploring, and justifying the different features, powers, and skills their dragons might have. The children then went on to write about their individual dragons, developing their ideas in more detail. We also made links to our DT learning, where the children designed and created castles that could be used to defend their occupants from dragons.

This week’s home learning will be for children to create a comic strip involving a dragon. Hard copies of the template will be coming home on Friday.

There will be no new spellings sent home this week. Instead, we invite children to access their personal spelling lists on EdShed and practise these where possible.

On Monday, we will be saying goodbye to our trainee teacher, Ms Baker, who has been with us since September. It has been a pleasure working with her, and we would like to thank her for her hard work and contribution to the class. We wish her all the very best at her new placement school.

Finally, a reminder that the last day of term is Friday 13th February. After half term, there will be an INSET day on Monday 23rd February, and all children will return to school on Tuesday 24th February.
