Year 3: This week

We had a brilliant time at the farm on Monday, seeing and learning all about the lambs.

Thank you to everyone who has bought in their bunny hop money. We had a great time bouncy around the track

Yesterday we planned out persuasive letter to the Prime Minister of Brazil. Today the children spent a long time writing their letters. The outcome has been fantastic! They will be going up in the writing hall of fame.

Art this afternoon will focus on sketching plants from the rainforest.

Year 3: Farm today reminder

Just a reminder that it is the farm today. Normal school top and home trousers please and wellies or sensible footwear such as walking boots. It hasn't rained very much over the last few days so it shouldn't be too muddy. They will be going in the afternoon so won't need to take a snack.

Year 3: Home learning and spellings

This week the children should have bought home a homophones sheet to complete.

I have set the spellings up a little differently this week. I am aware that some children might just practice their spellings the once and then bring them back to school. With this in mind I have put three tables of spellings. You could practice them one day, cut off the bottom table, practice again and then cut that off and then have a third lot to practice. Each time the children bring in a completed table, they can colour in a house point.

Year 3: Amazing assembly and the learning for the week

Thank you all so much for coming to our assembly. We all are super proud of all the children for confidently saying their lines!

As well as assembly practice this week we have been problem solving in Power Maths using money. Here is an example of one of the questions that we worked through yesterday.

We rewrote a poem yesterday about a butterfly. The children focussed so well on improving their handwriting. They had to use their BLP especially Reggie the resilient tortoise.

In Art we learnt how to do a gradient of colour and followed a step by step guide on how to draw a banana tree. Did you know that a banana tree isn't actually a tree but a herb!

Yesterday afternoon we spent some time in the garden planting a range of different sunflowers.

We hope you have a lovely weekend 😀🌻

Year 3: Bugtastic start to the week!

Yesterday, Year 3 had the fantastic Nick from Bugfest in to show the children some of the creatures of the Rainforest. The children loved listening to Nick and seeing and even sometimes holding the bugs!

The children then wrote about an animal in the Rainforest. Thank you so much for the brilliant masks that have come in. We are going to be using them for our assembly which is this Friday at 9.15am. Hope to see you all there 😀

Year 3: This week

This week we have been writing facts about the Rainforest. We have watched videos and written in note form. The children have learnt about the reasons behind the deforestation of the Amazon and were so passionate about preserving it. There will be some more work to come linked to this. Please could we have all animal masks in by Tuesday 22nd March

Today we started to plan our assembly together and the children decided what they wanted to talk about during the assembly next week.

In Maths we have been adding using money and really focussing on using the correct columns when writing in the column method.

Tomorrow we will be carrying out an investigation into which material would be best to make a parachute for a rover returning from Mars.

Just a reminder that it is Comic Relief on Friday. I know you have had various emails about it but all cakes are welcome to sell (labelled and nut free please) and children can dress up if they want to as their hero, or something red or a Comic relief top. Donations for this will be welcomed and all will be sent to Comic Relief to help people live free from poverty, violence and discrimination. This includes funding organisations that are supporting people right now in Ukraine, and those attempting to cross the border.

Year 3: Mars, money and the Yawanawa tribal art!

What an amazing week we have had. On Tuesday we got the chance to visit Mars at the Corn Exchange.

The child lay underneath Mars and listened to the story 'Curiosity' which was all about the Mars Rover Curiosity. Once back at school we also learnt lots of facts about Mars. Did you know Mars has two moons? Although it looks hot because it is red, Mars is actually a cold planet.

This week the children have been learning about the different layers of the Rainforest and the animals that live in them.

Today we started to learn about the Yawanawa tribe in the Amazon Rainforest, Brazil. We learnt how they used the seeds from a annatto plant to paint their faces. They paint patterns inspired by nature and animals. The children used felt tips to do this themselves on a template.

Then we followed a step by step guide by the artist John Dyer, who has been to the Amazon and worked with and painted with the Yawanawa tribe and drew a tribal figure.

**My computer will not let me upload the photos at the moment but I will add these tomorrow**
