Year 3: This week

Next week on Friday (13th) is the Year 3 parent information session in the hall from 9am. I'll run through what we are covering this term. Although this has been shared through the knowledge organiser.

This week the children are working so hard on our new writing scheme called 'letter join'. They are focussing on cursive letter formation.

In Maths we are coming to the end of Unit 3. This week we have been using inverse to work out if the answer is correct.

In Science we have started looking at different food groups and what we need in a balanced diet.

Please can we have the swimming letters back in this week. Swimming starts next week.

Please remember your child's reading record on Friday.

Computing - Communication

Today in Computing with Mr Spracklen, we began our unit of work on 'Email' by thinking about different methods of communication.

Following a great discussion, we began to create a 'Communications Mind Map' using 2Connect on Purple Mash. Children are welcome to continue these at home using Purple Mash if they would like to.

In the coming weeks, Year Three will be introduced to our internal email system (via Purple Mash). This is a very controlled environment that allows children to only send emails to other people in their class.

More details will follow in due course.

Y3: Things happening this week

Happy New Year!

We hope that you had a lovely break and we can't wait to hear about your holidays tomorrow.

This week we start a new topic where we are looking at the Polar regions and in particular looking at explorers through time. We will now be teaching Maths first thing everyday instead of RWI. We will explain all of this to the children tomorrow.

Please can we have PE kits in tomorrow as our Cricket PE session will start (PE every Tuesday).

Thank you to those parents that have filled in the swimming letters and sent them in. Please could we have these this week as we need to group the children for swimming which will take place next week. Just a reminder that the children will need a swimming costume/ trunks, towel, hat and goggles. Please let us know on a Thursday morning if your child is being picked up at the swimming pool.

See you all tomorrow!

Year 3: This week and tomorrow

We've had a very fun and busy week so far! I'm so proud of all of the children's performance this week in our performance of Snow White.

The children have sung at the Weldmar Hospice and Cheriton care home. They've watched Jack and the Beanstalk and had lots of festive fun including seeing Father Christmas appear on a motorbike!

Tomorrow the children can come in non school uniform. Christmas clothes/jumpers but please something warm.  They should also bring a 'wrapped' lunch.

See you all tomorrow for the last day of the Autumn term!

Year 3: DT week and reminders for the rest of the term

What a fantastic Design and Technology week we had last week. Here are some photos of the making process.

The children worked so hard to design, make and evaluate these figures and I am so impressed with the dedication and effort that they put in!

All of the models are now on display in Brewery Square so please do go and see them. These will be coming home before the end of term.

We have not set home learning or spellings this week and will not next week. We understand that it can be a very busy time of year for families.  If you feel like your child needs something to focus on please do practice the Year 3/4 word lists I gave you. Everyone also has access to PurpleMash, TTRS, Mathletics and AR reading.

Below are a few reminders about a few things coming up over the next couple of weeks:
Tuesday 6th: DT figures that the children made last week will be on display at Brewery Square. They will be in a shop front next to the ice rink and under the screen.

Wednesday 7th :Please could you aim to bring the children's costumes in by Wednesday for the Christmas performance. If you are unsure of what your child should be wearing, please get in touch with the Year 3 team.

Year 3: An amazing day!

Wow what a treat we have had today! The children were all so very well behaved and loved visiting the library and going to watch Matilda the musical in the cinema.

Thank you so much to POWSA that made this possible!

This week we have finished our learning about The Romans and the battle of Watling street. We ran out of time to film today so hope to do this next week at some point.

In Maths we have been looking at subtraction in the column method where we have had to exchange the tens or the hundreds and this is what the home learning this week focuses on.

Thank you to everyone that had their children's reading records in. It's fantastic to see how much you are all reading at home and it is definitely making a difference as their AR numbers are increasing.

We hope you have a lovely weekend. I will be sending out social stories for the children that might need this for our inspired to learn STEM week which will start on Monday.
