Christmas Cards for our friends in Class

Dear Parents,
Many of the children have expressed an interest in sending Christmas Cards to their friends in class. We are going to have an "In-School-Christmas-Post-Box" to facilitate this again this year. The children will be able to post their Christmas Cards in the Post Box and these will be delivered and handed out at an opportune moment during the school day.
We would like to actively encourage the children to join in with this. We feel that this is a nice practice and also promotes children's neatly presented writing. We are sending home a class list to help the children.
Many thanks

Great Class Assembly - Well done Year 3

Well done to the children in Year 3 for their excellent participation in our Class assembly this morning. There was fantastic delivery of lines, brilliant miming and super singing. Everyone was very complimentary about the way the children worked together and managed to keep their concentration throughout the performance.

As I mentioned in the assembly, the children have created some very detailed and exciting sea adventure stories based on the ideas we explored
within this drama.

Thank you to all of the parents, grandparents and family friends who managed to get along to see the Assembly.

Year Three Home Learning - Friday 27th November

Home learning – Year 3 World Map    Friday 27th November

The children in Year 3 have been given a map of the World. I would like them to find where each of the continents are, and the oceans are - and label these on the Map. They may also like to shade in the continents with different coloured pencils.

Many thanks,

Duncan MacBean

Adventure Stories about Barnacle Ben

The children in Year 3 have been enjoying writing their adventure stories about Barnacle Ben. We have done this as a series of chapters over the course of this week. It would be great if the children could read their stories to you.
Our Class Assembly tomorrow will give you a chance to see the "live version".

Costumes for Year 3 Class Assembly

Dear Parents,
It would be great if the children could bring in a costume for their Class Assembly on Friday 27th November. They are all going to be playing the part of sailors on board a 16th Century sailing ship.
Tracksuit trousers and T-shirts would be ideal. Handkerchiefs over their heads might make a nice addition. Any that fancy a bit of face paint to add tattoos and moustaches would be welcome. As the children will be climbing on the PE apparatus, they will need to have bare feet. (They will not be allowed to use any toy cutlasses or pistols as they will need their hands free for climbing.)
We hope that you can come along to the assembly to see them in action.
(At 9.20 am on Friday 27th November )
Many Thanks
Duncan MacBean

"Barnacle Ben" - The Big Write

Next week the children in Year 3 will be writing the story of “Barnacle Ben” and his adventures as a sailor. This is tied in with our class assembly at 9.20 am on Friday 27th November.
This writing will follow the “The Big Write” approach,-  where we encourage the children to spend time talking over their ideas for their writing at home beforehand.  The story will be in the form of some diary entries at different stages of Barnacle Ben’s adventures.

There are 5 stages to his adventures:
Being tricked on board the ship
Learning to become a sailor
A battle with pirates
The mutiny
Finding land at last

Home Learning - Year 3 Friday 13th November "Wonderful World"

Home Learning - Year 3       Friday 13th November

Wonderful World
For their “Home Learning” activity this week I have suggested that the children make up a poem under the title “What a Wonderful World”. They should try to include images and ideas that make them feel happy and put a smile on their face.
In class we have listened to “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong and talked about the words in the song.

Many Thanks,
Duncan MacBean

Great Work About Nelson

The children in Year 3 have done some fantastic work about Nelson this week. Well done to everyone who had a go at the "Nelson Quiz" that was sent as a "Home Learning" challenge. We have done impressive artwork and acrostics - some of which you can see on our classroom display board.
Don't forget that you can come along to see our "Sailors' Hornpipe" Dance in the school hall at 3.10pm on Thursday

Finding out about Nelson during our "Britishness Week"

The children in Year 3 are going to be finding out about Lord Nelson this week. This is our particular focus for the school's "Britishness Week". We will be finding out about the events of his life that led to him being consider a British Hero.
The children are also going to have a go at learning a "Hornpipe Dance"; the sort of dance that might have been performed in the days of Nelson's navy. At the end of the school day on Thursday, the children will perform this dance in the School Hall. You are welcome to come along to watch and join in.
We hope to see you there, DM

Children in Need 2015

Children in Need is fast approaching. You should have all received a letter today explaining about Friday (13th).

The Children's Voice will be selling Children in Need merchandise from Monday in the area outside Year 1.

On Friday our dress up theme is 'Britishness'  (maybe they could dress up in the colours of our flag or famous British person)

Just like the country file team all children and staff at The Prince of Wales School will be partaking in a 1 mile ramble around our school grounds.

After school on Friday we will be having a cake sale. We would love to have lots of cakes (whole and cupcakes) and biscuits to sell. Please give all the cakes to your class teacher to store in the morning.

"Assembly Words" Year 3 for our Class Assembly on Friday 27th November

I have sent home some "Assembly Words" with some of the children in Year 3. It would be helpful if they could practise at home.
Our Class Assembly if on Friday 27th November at 9.20 am.
Many Thanks,

Year 3 Home Learning Friday 6th November - The Nelson Quiz

Year 3 Home Learning Friday 6th November  - The Nelson Quiz

Find the answer to as many of these questions as you can.
Can you write the answers as WHOLE SENTENCES?
If you get stuck on a question, don’t worry, just leave it and go on to the next one. You don’t have to do them in the order that I’ve written them.

What was Nelson’s father’s job?
How old was Nelson when he first joined the navy?
What two significant injuries did Nelson get when fighting at sea?How did Nelson famously ignore an order to retreat?
When was the Battle of Trafalgar?
How did Nelson send the famous message: “England expects every man will do his duty”?
How was Nelson killed?
Who was with Nelson when he died?
How did they preserve Nelson’s dead body so that they could bring it back to England?
Where is Nelson buried?
Where is the HMS Victory now?

Harvest fundraising.

To let you all know that a super amount of £350 pounds has been raised! This will be sent to UNICEF to buy water kits as the children requested.
