Year 3: PSHE week and assembly news

This week the children have been working so hard to plan and write their adventure stories. They have found Mary Anning and are taking her back in time to the land of the dinosaurs! Tomorrow sees the last day of writing and I cannot wait to read how they all finish.

Yesterday we had Mel Lane from the SPACE project in the classroom sharing the story  'And Tango makes three'. It was a story about two male penguins who didn't have an egg to incubate but the keepers of New York Zoo gave them one. We spoke about how families can be made differently and that the most important thing about a family is the love that is shared. As a class we spoke about the fact that there is no 'girls' and 'boy' things such as toys, clothing and everyday life such as mud. The children were very good at recognising and reasoning why it is ok for anybody to play with any toys and wear anything that they want to. The children showed compassion and kindness throughout the visit and I was really proud of them all.

Thank you to everybody for taking the time to fill in the swimming form. This will be every Wednesday pm after half term. I have put the children in groups to start off with but these may change when we start swimming. We have had many discussions about swimming and I know that there are a few children that might be feeling apprehensive about the lessons but I can assure you that the Year 3 team will be there every week and the children will be more settled once they have been the first time.

On the first Friday after half term (11th) it will be our class assembly. This will be for parents only in the hall (socially distant). We will be practising this after half term.

I won't see you all now but I hope you all have a lovely half term next week 😊

Y3: Week 6 PSHE week

I hope you've had a lovely weekend, even in the stormy weather!

This week is PSHE week and so we have a number of extra learning tasks linked to ourselves, our bodies, feelings, mental health and wellbeing. On Thursday we have the life education van coming in (not the van but in the hall).

Tomorrow we will be carrying on writing our stories about going back in time. Once we have finished them we will be sending a copy home for you to read. We also have cricket twice tomorrow so please do make sure your child has all of their PE kit in school.

Wednesday is 'United against bullying day', we will be doing a numbers of tasks linked to bullying.

Look forward to seeing all of the children tomorrow and hearing about their weekend

Year 3: Rocks, writing and fractions!

This week we will be planning and writing an adventure story where we go back in time to meet Mary Anning! The children made a great start today in planning their stories using interesting word choices. We can't wait to watch these develop.

In Science we used identification keys to identify a number of different rocks and planned an investigation which we will carry out on Wednesday.

In Maths we have been looking at tenths of a number. The children worked incredibly hard during this lesson today and a Marvellous Me will be on it's way!

Year 3: Rocktastic!

Evening everyone and 'May the fourth be with you' 😁

Today we have been using our multiplication and division skills to answer our Maths problems such as the one below. It was really important that we were systematic in the way that we answered the questions.

In Science today we sorted a number of rocks and then described them by looking closer using magnifying glasses. The children were really curious to find out how the different rocks are formed and the names of different rocks. I was so impressed with the working scientifically skills shown during this Science lesson today.

Just a reminder that it is the Maths dress up day tomorrow. I have heard that lots of children are decorating an old t shirt which is a great idea.

Miss Welch, our student teacher, starting working with us in Year 3 today. She will be with us for the next few weeks.

Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow for our marvellous Maths day
