Year Three Explore the Power of Spreadsheets!

Today in Computing, our Year Three pupils delved into the fascinating world of spreadsheets. With Mr. Spracklen leading the way, they revisited key concepts and learnt how to use spreadsheet effectively.

The learning objectives for this session were:

  • To recap spreadsheet terms and purposes.
  • To add and edit data in a table layout.
  • To explore how spreadsheet programs can automatically create graphs from data.

Our success criteria ensured that pupils:

  • Used correct terminology for spreadsheet programs.
  • Created a table of data on a spreadsheet.
  • Used the program to generate charts and graphs automatically.

Using 2Calculate on Purple Mash, the children quickly got to grips with inputting data, editing table layouts, and exploring the magic of automatic chart and graph creation. It was wonderful to see their excitement as their carefully entered numbers transformed into colourful, clear visual representations.

The pupils demonstrated fantastic focus and creativity, building confidence in a skill that is as important in today’s digital world as it is practical. By the end of the session, every child successfully created their own charts and graphs, showcasing their newfound knowledge.

This lesson laid a solid foundation for further exploration into data handling and analysis—a crucial part of our Computing curriculum. WELL DONE YEAR THREEE! Keep up the amazing work.

Stay tuned for more updates on our Computing adventures! Mr Spracklen

Snow days, Art and Audtions

 Hi Year Three Families,

Goodness me what an exciting week we had!! The children all had an amazing snow day on Thursday, such fun!

In History this week we were learning about the different stages of Human Evolution with Miss Gosling I wonder if the children can remember the names of the different species?

In Art we started sculpting our Plinth People, this was a tricky task and I am very proud of how resilient everyone was during this task.

This week in Maths we finished our focus on Addition and Subtraction and next week will we start a new focus on multiples, please remember to use TTRockstars regularly and see me if you would prefer a sheet to complete.

Turning our attention to this week, ohhhh exciting POW Magic is coming and we are very much looking forward to our Inspired Writing Week! Please do check information sent home from Mr Spracklen.

We will be holding our very informal auditions for the Christmas Play this week, this is 'opt in' children do not have to audition, however, if they would like to be considered for one of the roles of The Boy, The Mole, The Fox or The Horse we would love to see them audition. Information and a short script was sent home last week.

On Friday it will be our Christmas Craft day, children have made their choices for this wonderful day!

I am very much looking forward to a busy few weeks with the ever wonderful and fantastic Year Three

PE Kits and Christmas Production

 Hi Year Three Families,

Firstly a reminder that all children must have a PE kit in school, we have a significant number of children who do not have one. As the weather is getting colder, we will continue to do PE outside in dry weather I would heartily recommend adding a pair of tracksuit bottoms into your child's PE Kit to ensure they stay warm.

More excitingly, we are beginning to think about our Christmas production. This year Key Stage Two will be doing an adapted version of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. We are thrilled to bring such a beautiful story to life. Children have already started to rehearse the songs, however we need to cast the parts.

Children have been given information about this today and a copy of a short piece of script to practise if they wish to take part in our very informal and relaxed auditions at the start of next week for the main parts.

If your children does not wish to have a speaking part they have been encouraged to discuss this with me, however we have made sure that everyone who wants a speaking role can have one.

We are particularly fortunate this year as Miss Gosling is an experienced dancer and she will be our choreographer, which means we are also able to incorporate some dance elements to our performance, if you child would like to be one of our dancers they will also have the opportunity to discuss this with me.

We are all extremely excited to bring this incredible story to life.

Busy Times in Year 3

 Hi Year Three Families,

Goodness me, we have had a busy start to Autumn 2 in Year 3. In History we are learning about The Stone age to the Iron age, we started by designing some tools or weapons and we've also learnt about the three different ages of the Stone Age.

In English we have complemented our History focus by using The First Painting as our text. Children will finish this module this week by writing a story in the first person. We made some amazing Freeze Frames this week!

We have started a new art focus and are focussing on Sculpture, we have been studying the environmental sculpture Maya Lin and we have been busy designing our own sculpture.

In Maths we have continued our focus on column addition and subtraction. If you would like more timetable paper copies please do let me know.

In Science this week we were learning about the human skeleton.

Most excitingly this week we received letters from Australia, we are hoping to establish a pen pal relationship with Blue Mountain Grammar School in Wentworth New South Wales, all children replied to their letters and we await their reply. To compliment this activity home learning is a child led research task on Australia. Children can present this information anyway they choose, they might like to do a poster.

As ever please do get in touch if you have anything you would like to discuss.
