Year 3: Forest school pouches

 

Today in Forest School the children have started to make leather pouches. They had to hammer the holes using a metal punch. We will carry these on next week. We also made bird feeders for the trees. 

In Science today the children were taught about friction and many questions were asked about whether or not a surface is better having more/less friction. On Friday we will do an experiment on this. 

Year 3: Roman Soldiers and reading books

Good evening everyone! 

Today the children started to research about Roman Soldiers. We are going to compile the information that they find out to make a non chronological report. 

In Power Maths we have been estimating numbers and rounding numbers to the nearest 100. For example if the number was 322 then the children had to write the nearest 100 (300). 

Please could we have all reading books in school. Lots of children have many books out, some that they haven't brought back for a long time. 

Finally, thank you so much for your support. The children's home learning has been absolutely amazing and we really appreciate it. The shields are phenomenal! We will be doing the 'battle' next week.

Year 3: Home learning 5/11

 

Year 3: End of the week Science, Art, reading and praise assembly!

 Yesterday we had a fantastic Science lesson based around forces. The children were able to question and reason around the topic and show which way the contact force was being put on an object. 

In Art we looked at how we can use oil pastels to make a firework picture with a reflection over water. These were really impressive! 

We spoke about firework safety and the importance of being sensible around sparklers.

We then had our praise assembly. Congratulations to:

William- Resourceful Rose award for making links to prior knowledge related to our forces work

Elliott-Celebrating difference award for being such a supportive friend in the class

Edie was praised for her fantastic inference question linked to our new book The Iron Man. 

We started to read this book yesterday. Please could I ask that the children don't purchase this and read this at home. We spend our time making predictions and inference questions about the text. If they have already read this then it makes it a little difficult. We have shared the following texts this week:

Year 3: We found a hedgehog! Forest school afternoon

 

This afternoon we thought we would get our grounds ready for the winter. We collected in our hedgehog houses ready to refill. However in this one we already had a littler visitor who was hibernating! We were very careful and quiet and put them back safely. 

 We then collected leaves and filled the two other hedgehog houses and hid them in the undergrowth again. 

After all our efforts we decided we should cook some popcorn. Whilst the kernels were cooking the children had a go at making a spark with the flint and steel. 

This morning I took some of the eco team on a question and answer session about COP26 with Chris Packham. School in the Southwest asked him questions on BBC Radio Solent. Unfortunately he ran out of time to answer our question, but we have tweeted him and hope he might answer soon!

Year 3: Learning about COP26

 This morning the children watched two very interesting videos that explain what COP26 is. They then worked with a partner to access google classroom where I had set a number of questions. Using the links in the classroom they needed to read the documents and answer the questions in full sentences in their books. 

They then watched a clip about making a pledge to support COP26 and how they were going to do this. We had a number of different pledges from promising to not waste their food to reusing items and turning off lights. 

This afternoon the children had a workshop with 'The Happy Puzzle Company'. 

They had to work in teams to solve puzzles and games. This is a great example of how the children are using their BLP Reggie the resilient tortoise skills in action! 

And finally at the end of the day they had golf with Mr Treble. An action packed first day back! 

Year 3: The start of Autumn 2!

We can't wait to welcome everyone back to school tomorrow, we hope you've all had a restful break and have had fun making your shields! These can be bought in to school now or by the end of the week. 

We've had a little move about of the classroom so that everyone can easily see the screen now (it was difficult because of the sun!) So tomorrow morning your child will come in to a new space. If you feel they need to be made aware of these changes please do let them know in the morning. 

Tomorrow we are going to be learning about something that is very current in the news at the moment and that is COP26. The whole school will be learning what COP26 is and why it is so important. We will then be making our own pledges to support it. More photos to follow!

In Literacy we will be learning about the Celts and the Romans and how both of their armies were very different! This will lead up to our new assembly date which is Thursday 25th November at 9.20am. 

In Maths we will be carrying on with addition and subtraction. Please keep on accessing TTRS and Mathletics at home. 

And finally in Science we will be learning about forces and movement.
