Today in Computing with Mr Spracklen we thought about the RISKS and REWARDS of using the Internet. We then considered the S.M.A.R.T e-safety code -

Year Three Home Learning - Mon 12th Sept

First week in Year 3!

We have had a very thoughtful end to our first week. As there was a lot of talk about the sad news of Queen Elizabeth dying, we decided to think about things we have remembered about the Queen and what we were thankful to her for. Lots of the children wrote about the Jubilee party we had at school, trips to London and Windsor that they have had with their families. These will be going up into the writing hall of fame so hopefully you'll get to see them after the parent information session next Friday. 

This week we have been getting to know routines and expectations in the class. We have started Unit 1: Place value in our Power Maths books and explored the resources we can use to help us. We are still updating the log ins but these will be with you ASAP. 

In Forest School we spent time out in nature searching for interesting items, jumping in puddles, building dens, playing with the clay pits and reading a Stone Age story in the roundhouse whilst sheltering from the heavy rain. It was a fantastic afternoon and I hope to share the pictures with you once the ipad agrees do it! 

This afternoon we have had our interactive headsets and listened to the Stone Age story. We will be using this as inspiration at the start of this new topic and look forward to doing some amazing writing next week.

Key stage 2 (years 3 & 4) spellings

 

Dear parents and carers,

Depending on the spelling group your child is in, you may find the frequency of spellings sent home may seem less than in previous years. 

If your child is in one of the colour named RWI groups or spelling groups 2A or 2B your child will continue to have weekly spellings to learn and a weekly spelling test. 

If your child is in spelling groups 3 or 4, they have one spelling test a fortnight. They will be given spellings to learn in the first week and in the second week they will be given an additional spelling activity (whilst still having the remaining week to continue to learn their spellings). As the words become gradually more challenging, the children will be given activities to help them to retain and apply these spellings in their writing. 

Year 3 children have had spellings sent home this week (please check book bags), whereas year 4 will have spellings to learn next week, following spellings assessments this week.

Adult support is often very helpful in helping your child learn their spellings. Children can use the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check spelling sheets that are sent home but any additional practice or games such as hangman or anagrams will help your child.  

Below are links to spelling lists for words that children should hopefully have learnt by the end of their time at the Prince of Wales school.

You might find these lists useful should you want to use them. However, please be mindful that children's learning ability develops at different rates, (just like all developmental milestones) so please don't be overly alarmed if your child hasn't retained all the spellings by the suggested ages. Try to achieve regular, low stress spelling practice and activities.  Oxford Owl has a link here with some alternative tips to help your child learn their spellings.

Information about home learning and today 6/9/22

 

Today in Year 3 we have been through the routines of the classroom. The children now know about the 'time keepers' 'house points' and which groups they are in. 

More information about Year 3 will be shared in the parent information session. Just a few questions to clear up. Passwords and usernames are being updated and so hopefully by the end of the week I can send home everyone's passwords for the platforms they will be able to use at home. Home learning is set on a Monday and will be looked at the following Monday. If the children complete this before they are welcome to bring it in and put it in the home learning box in the classroom. We will not be using books but all work will be in the named folder that we sent on Monday. This work will then be transferred into a working folder at school. 

It's been great today getting to know all of the children. I can't wait to see them all again tomorrow.

Year Three - Home Learning and Spellings

It was lovely to see the children in Year Three make such an enthusiastic and purposeful start to the Autumn Term. 

We are looking forward to a happy and successful term together.

Home Learning - This will be sent out on a Monday - with a view to being completed within the week.

Weekly Spellings - We will also be given the Y3 children spellings on a Monday. This is a list of words that the children will be working on at school when using the 'Read, Write, Inc' Spelling scheme. The children in the class are working in different groups; their spellings reflect this.

Year 3: And so the adventure begins!

We cannot wait to welcome you all into Year 3 next week! 

The classroom looks very similar to transition day but the library has had a restock and new cushions. 

Next week we will spend some time learning the new routines of Year 3 including seating arrangements, timetable, class jobs and we will be working together to make our own Rights Respecting class charter. 

We will share with you the time table in our parent information session which will be at 9am on Friday 16th September in the hall. In the meantime, key things to know are that PE will be on a Monday and Wednesdays. 

Forest School will be on a Thursday afternoon. Ideally we would ask for a change of clothes for this session. This should be a long sleeved top, jumper/coat, long trousers and wellingtons. We ask for long sleeves and trousers for health and safety reasons because we will be using tools and lighting fires. Please don't feel the need to go and buy anything new, older clothes are preferred as they will probably get dirty whilst we are enjoying ourselves in nature. If you are happy with your child wearing their uniform and just changing their shoes then please let us know, however they may get stained/dirty. 

Just a reminder that Mr MacBean will be the class teacher on a Monday and I

 (Mrs Thorpe) will be the rest of the week.
