Y3: Home learning pieces of art!

I popped into the classroom at the end of the day and as soon as I walked in I was amazed by the brilliant shields all around the room. Thank you so much for your support and help with these shields. It really is a task that the children will remember for a long time to come.

They have all been asking me when the battle is! So the plan will be to 'battle' with these either at the end of this week or the beginning of next but this all depends on the weather.

Computing with Mr Spracklen

Today in Computing with Mr Spracklen we found out how spreadsheet programs can automatically create graphs from data.

We used 2Calculate (which is part of Purple Mash).

In class, all children completed Activity One -

Mr Spracklen was very impressed!

Most children also completed Activity Two -

Some children completed Activity Three -

If you want to explore this further at home... why not give Mr Spracklen's Activity Four: Extension activity a try -

Well done Year Three, another great Computing lesson!

Year 3: Home learning-shields

It was so lovely to see all the children again today. We spent some time looking at our new timeline in the hall. We spoke about what we had been learning about last half term and then looked at what we are learning about now and how this fit on the timeline.

Today in History we learnt about how the Romans conquered Britain and what happened during this time.

It was brilliant to see the children getting excited when they saw faces that they recognised on the timeline and key events which they had learnt about in previous years. Some of the things that they noticed were the Great Fire of London and Nelson. We look forward to using the timeline in future lessons, being inquisitive Historians.

Following on from above, we spoke about the home learning. Just a reminder that
Hippogriff + Dragon’s = Roman shield
Owl + Phoenix = Celt shield

Roman shields tend to be the red/yellow ones and the Celts the more earth coloured shields. I reminded them that we do not want swords in please. These are going to be used in our Mock battle. I had originally said by this Friday but I have extended it slightly to Monday. Please bring your child's shield in on Monday 7th November.

Any questions please just give me an email or catch me at the door.

Thank you 😀

Y3: Autumn 2

We're all looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday!

Autumn 2 is always so full of excitement and inspirational learning. We have some brilliant learning experiences planned.

We will be having PE on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Please can you make sure your child has a PE kit in school, there are a number of children without them and it is important to have them in school.

Forest Schools will still be on a Thursday pm, waterproofs are essential for this term.

Please can you bring the shields into school on Monday 7th November. We cannot store them in school before hand so please do not bring them in before the above date. We're really looking forward to seeing these and thank you in advance for all of the effort you have put into supporting your child to create them. The children will be using them in a mock battle and so they should be able to hold them in one arm. Please can we ask for no swords to accompany the shields.

See you all on Tuesday!

Year 3: Ancient Technology Centre trip

We've had a fantastic day at The Ancient Technology Centre. The children were all brilliant and listened and learnt lots! Thank you to Jen and Nada who supported us today with the different workshops. The children learnt how make cordage out of reed, how to weave on a loom and looked at artefacts from the bronze and iron age. It was a brilliant day. Thank you to all of the adults that supported our trip today.

Year 3- This week

This week we are delving into learning more facts about the Celts. We have been using our Historical research skills to research facts about the Celts. We are then going to use them to write a non chronological report.

Today the children did the end of half term reading test on AR. This means that many children will come home tomorrow and tell you they have new numbers. If this doesn't get back to you then I will try and send a Marvellous me with the information in by the end of the week.

Just a reminder that it is our school trip to the Ancient Technology Centre on Thursday. Warm clothes with suitable shoes please and a packed lunch.

Home learning last week was to design and make their shields. I understand that this is a bit labor intensive so we have allowed 3 weeks for this. Please do not bring them in before hand as we are limited on space to store them.

Thank you, any questions please feel free to email me.
