Y3- A message from Antarctica!

We were very excited in Y3 today as we had a message from Antarctica. Grace's Dad knows someone on board the 'Ernest Shackleton' ship which is currently in Antarctica and he send Grace a 'Hello' message! We hope to have a Skype call with him soon to see Antarctica!!

This afternoon in Forest School we made some fat balls for the birds so we are ready for the RSPB 'Big bird watch' which will be happening on Thursday. We also attempted to paint hand prints on the wall of the roundhouse.

Thank you everyone that has signed up for parents evening, these are on the board in the classroom.

Y3 Shackleton's diary

Today the children used the information they already know about Shackleton to write a diary entry. We started by describing the temperature and sleeping arrangements. All of the children worked incredibly hard on this and I can't wait to read the finished product next week!

Thank you to everyone that has given us egg cartons and bottles, we have enough of these now. We would however still like to collect any buttons and shells or anything you think might be useful for us to reuse in a piece of art work.

In Maths this week we have finished off looking at multiplication and division. Home learning this week is a missing number multiplication sheet. Although we will not be focusing on times tables now for a few weeks, please do keep on practising them. We will be sending home the TT rock star log ins next week.

Y3 Stone Age Forest School

This week in Forest School we used the pieces of cloth that we stained last week as a back drop to our cave art. The children looked at cave paintings and then gave it a go! They used sand, clay and charcoal in their pictures. They came out fantastically and will be on display in our classroom very soon. 

We also took our sketch books outside. The children focussed on fading and shading. They all worked really well and concentrated on what they were sketching. 

Y3 Please could we have these items to reuse and recycle.

Please could you start collecting/ check your recycling for the following items:

We will be using the egg cartoons and plastic bottles in a craft ready for Science week. We would also like to collect those unwanted buttons you have around the house and any shells you don't know what to do with! The idea is that we are reusing or recycling so please don't go collecting from the beach or buying these items. If you have any surplus art materials at home that you think we could use we would be very grateful. 

Ideally this will be collected by the 31st January please.

Y3- Division and the Stone Age!

Today in Maths we worked on dividing numbers by 3. The children are able to do this as they can multiply by 3. We spoke about the inverse and fact families.

It was fantastic to see that everyone had their Forest School clothes today, thank you all!
We started to learn about the Stone Age. We read the story

The children learnt about early man and the tools that they used. When we went outside the children used natural dyes to colour cotton fabric. We are going to use this next week for cave paintings. 

We also worked in groups to make tepees. 

And finally we cut elder and then took out the soft pith. The children used these beads to make jewellery. 

Y3- Welcome to the Spring term!

Hello welcome back everyone. Apologies about the lack of blogs last week the flu really had me!

I hear that the children have had a great week back and have started to learn about their new topic of 'Explorers'. We will be talking more about this at our parent information session which will be at 9am in the staff room.

Just a quick reminder that Forest School will resume tomorrow afternoon. Warm clothes will be needed and coats etc. If your children doesn't have this tomorrow they may have to stay inside as it is too cold to be out there without the correct clothing.

Y3- A Merry Christmas from Mrs Thorpe

We are now nearing the end of the Autumn term. I am extremely proud of how well all of Year 3 has performed 'A Christmas Carol'. They have their last performance tomorrow. Thank you for providing some fantastic costumes and practising lines at home. 

Today the children got to have a play of the new Reception out door equipment which they loved! Thanks to POWSA for all of the fundraising for this. I am sure we will be making more visits so that they can go on it again!

Today the children have bought home the biscuit boxes they designed and made and some delicious biscuits that they made and decorated. As well as their Christmas cards. 

Just a reminder that on Friday the children will be having Christmas party food instead of their hot/packed lunches. If you haven't put your name next to something, there is still time.

Finally I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas. I hope you enjoy this magical time of year with family and friends. Thank you so much for your kind gifts.
