Year 3 #InspiredToLearn Home Learning - 25th June 2021
The Fiver Challenge Timeline:
Week 1: Look at examples of home learning and share ideas for businesses. Pick a group to join.
Week 2 : Finalise your market research, finalise your business name and logo and write your business plan (we will do this on Thursday). Fivers will be given out at the end of the week to the groups. We will be doing this on Monday)
Week 3 (This Week): Design your products, Write your sales pitch and advertise your product / service.
Week 4 (Next Week): Budgeting, setting prices and planning pop up shop or service. Buy your materials and begin to make your products.
Week 5 (Week beginning 5th July): THE BIG SELL. Each afternoon after school pop up shops will be able to open to sell their products. You can open all 5 days or just some of them.
Week 6 (Week beginning 12th July): Evaluate the fiver challenge and collect in money.
Every step of the way we would welcome adult’s help and support at home and at our after school pop up shops in the week 5 of the project.
Dear Parents
As you know, the fiver challenge is well underway, we have brainstormed, planned, replanned and hit plenty of hurdles already. Such is life in big business! There have been exciting highs and more stressful lows, but we think we have come up with a winning formula that allows everyone to be involved but to allay any anxieties and stresses that have already come to the fore.
First of all we need to ask you for your help. Each of the businesses below require an adult to support them in buying any materials / ingredients for their final products, looking after their money and helping them sell the products in the week beginning 5th July. If you are able to help, please write your name in the box below the group you wish to help or let a member of the Year 3 team know and we will send the £5 home so that you can buy initial supplies and work with the children to begin manufacturing any products they wish to sell.
The aim of the fiver challenge is for each group to maximise their profits. This may mean that they have to buy more resources and manufacture more products as the week progresses using some of the profits they have already made. We will allow each group time to set up each day that they wish to sell within this week, but would appreciate your support in helping them man their stalls.
We would also like to offer a plan B if your child is finding the process of this project challenging. In addition to the above businesses we are also opening a whole class business called “The Buzz”.
“The Buzz” will be selling bee and pollinator related products such as those below. Anyone can make a product to be sold on the stall. Half of all profits will go to Dorset Wildlife Trust and the other half will go to the class treat fund. We will spend some time in school making products for this business and it will support children in understanding that by working as part of a team we can do great things together! This business will be led by the Year 3 team. Those children that have found the group businesses difficult may find this a less stressful, alternative option.
Some ideas for “The Buzz” products:
Bee charm bracelets
Plants
Beeswax candle making
Bee pom-poms
Bee bookmarks
We hope everyone enjoys the rest of the challenge, don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Yours sincerely
Mrs Thorpe and Miss Johnson
