Children in Need

Children in Need this year have developed a programme for Primary Children to support Mental Health.  It is called 5 to Thrive.  There are videos and activities to support 5 areas: Connect, Taking Notice, Get Active, Be Curious and Give.

We will be looking at some of these in class tomorrow (13th November).

At home we would like to see how many acts of kindness each of the children can complete this week.  There is a tick list for some ideas attached.

Also we have been set a Pudsey colouring challenge Ms Isiktas and Ms Williams our trainee teachers are running a competition for this and there will be a prize for someone in year 3.  Will it be you?

Lastly there is a mental wellness sheet designed to stimulate conversation relating to raising self esteem.

Year 3 Children in Need -12th November 2020

 Just a quick reminder that tomorrow is a non-uniform day in aid of Children in Need.

Children are invited to come to school in spots or colours - red, green, blue or yellow.

We look forward to seeing you for lots of fun learning on Children in Need Day - Friday 13th November.

Year 3 — Forest Schools Update

All children will be taking part in this Monday's Forest School session.  Please send your child to school in warm play clothes trousers and a school top and jumper along with a coat that you don't mind getting dirty.  Waterproof overtrousers can be brought to slip on later in the day if it is wet.  Also please ensure that your child has suitable footwear for working outside, boots or wellies are best.

Appologies for the late notice and change in plans.  We would appreciate it if you could pass the message on so that all children come to school dressed in their warm clothes and ready for some outdoor learning!

Year 3: Forest school news for this week...

 This week we will be starting Forest School sessions. I (Mrs Thorpe) will be taking half of the class out at a time to the FS area whilst the other half stay in with either Mrs Hall or Mrs Brooker. The group inside will be doing Science and then some mindfulness yoga. 

Monday pm group will be Slytherin and Hufflepuff

Katie, Lana, Ilarya, Jessica, George W, Jacob A, Joel, Isla, Kailani, Charlie, Gracie, Alfie, Cameron, Olivia and Arlo. 

Wednesday pm group will be Gryffindor and Ravenclaw

George D, Freddie, Lottie, Rosa, Jacob H, Charlotte, Tom, William F, William T, Anna, Oscar, Olive, Jesse, Hollie and Alfred

Please can the children come in to school on their FS day with their home trousers on (ones that are warm and that you don't mind getting dirty). They can still wear their school tops/jumpers but have a coat which can be used in FS. Hats, gloves, scarves and wellingtons or sturdy shoes would be great too. We don't want lots of extra clothes that the children need to get changed in to. If it is really rainy then if they could bring waterproof trousers if you have any. Please do not feel like you need to buy anything special, just warm clothes.

If the children do not have their FS clothes then they will have to stay inside and miss their session. It's far too cold out there at the moment to be spending all afternoon outside without sufficient clothing.

Packing for a Polar Expedition

Today we met Tyler Fish who is responsible for all of the kit his polar explorer team take with them to the arctic.  He knows a lot about surviving in extreme conditions.  Today we learned about insulation and how it can stop things getting too hot or too cold.  Use your knowledge to make a list of items you would take with you in order to survive a polar climate.  Think about what you will wear (to keep you warm) and what other equipment you might need.  The pictures below might help you.

Welcome Back - 4th November 2020

 Well what a wonderful start Year 3 have made to Autumn term 2!  It has been a pleasure to have the children back in the classroom enjoying their learning and we have been impressed with their hardworking and focused attitudes.

This week we have spent some time revising some grammar terms, completing our comprehension activities relating to The Iron Man which we finished last half term, we continue to grapple with exchange for subtraction, had a yoga and gym lesson, found out more about fireworks, created our own scratch art firework display, read books and completed quizzes and it's only Wednesday!  Phew!  

This week we will be beginning our polar exploration topic by looking at how animals and humans survive in polar climates.  We will also be putting some finishing touches to our class assembly so that it is ready to broadcast soon.  We will let you know when so that you can tune in or watch it on catch-up.

Thank you to all of you who have returned poppies for the design challenge and completed the Polar Explorer home learning and had a go at the triple - tomorrow we will check to see who has managed to complete the challenge.  Marvellous Me points will be winging their way to you.

Resourceful Rose the Spider has joined us to help with our learning powers this half term.  The children will be encouraged to find the Rose posters which offer advice in how to be a really resourceful learner around school.  All of the classes are working on this learning power this half term, so if you hear about Rose, you know who she is!

Resilient Reggie is also still patrolling the school too.  So keep up those resilient learning powers!
