This week in Year 3 we are going to look at the story 'The Great Kapok Tree' by Lynne Cherry. I don't want to give too much of the story away but this will start our study of finding out why the Rainforest is so important and the reasons why it needs to be saved! We will be using drama and drawings to help us retell the story. We will also look at the speech in the story. We will also try again with the VR headsets this week and visit an orangutan sanctuary in Borneo.
In Power Maths this week we will be using a number line to 1000. The children need to recognise the place value of each digit in a three-digit number (hundreds, tens, ones). They will be placing numbers on empty number lines and using their reasoning skills to answers questions. They will also be finding 1, 10 and 100 more or less than a number. It's fantastic to see how well Year 3 have settled in to the routine of Year 3 Power Maths. They have been using base ten equipment, hundreds tens and ones grids and whole part models to aid with their understanding of place value to 1000.
In Science this week we will be continuing looking at plants and will be finishing off our terrariums as well as starting a new experiment.
By the end of this week your child will have a new AR number and a book that correlates to this number.
Please do contact us if you have any questions about the week ahead or anything you would like to discuss with us.
