Science week so far: catapults and curly wurly stretching!

We are having a fantastic Science week and it really is a joy to see the children interacting and playing as one team. This week we have collaboratively made the building learning power animals (bee, spider, monkey and tortoise) which are now on display in our classroom. We will continuously refer to them and send MarvelousMe to you so you can see the brilliant work the children have been doing.

Yesterday in Science/Maths we looked and investigated 'the heavier the object the further it will travel, prove it'. We made catapults and tested which object travelled the furthest; a rubber, pom pom or a bead. The children then had to measure precisely how far each object travelled. Then we compared two of the lengths by converting the measurements into mm and subtracting them using the column method.

For today's Science task we took part in the whole school challenge: how far can you stretch a curly wurly? Each child had a curly wurly which they had to stretch as far as they could in 3 minutes. Trying to keep the curly wurly in one piece was a challenge! They then had to measure their curly wurly. As a class we then reflected on the process and thought that if the curly wurly was warm it might stretch further so we tested this. After putting it in the microwave for 5 seconds it was more stretchy however it was also more inclined to break! I believe the leader for today's challenge was 94.5cm!

Every Monday pm now until the Easter holidays all of us will be going outside so please can the children wear home trousers and have wellingtons in school. Please could the children also have their PE kits in school. PE this term is on a Tuesday and Friday.

We have some really exciting challenges for the end of the week!
