Junk Percussion

Next week we will doing lots of exciting things within the theme of "Global Awareness".
One of these is making percussion instruments out of recycled everyday household waste. If you have any old empty drinks cans, plastic bottles, egg cartons, small cardboard boxes (etc) we would be grateful if you could bring them in on Monday.
Thank you.

Science: Floating and sinking

The children have been investigating objects that float and sink. They will be creating a boat out of plasticine in a couple of weeks. Please could you help them look out for everyday objects that float in the water.
Thank You Mrs Bourne

Roundhouse work

Despite the cold weather seriously affecting our work on Wednesday, Years 3 and 4 have successfully:

demolished an old structure and old clay oven
constructed two new wattle fences
built and installed a new door for the roundhouse
created a Swedish logpile
mixed clay, dried grass and water for a daub to make a new clay oven
smashed up old bricks into powder to add to the daub
constructed a willow dome over which the daub will be applied

We hope that when completed, we can use the clay oven to bake bread and cook our own pizzas!
Well done to all the children, thanks to parents who helped and to our friends from Cranborne!

Football Club

Due to our roundhouse work next week, I have decided to cancel football club next Wednesday 8.2.12. From previous experience, it's too much changing in one day! Mrs Hibberd

Home Learning- Planning my "Myth"

Planning My Myth

For their “home learning” this weekend I have asked the children to continue to plan out the writing of a story in the form of a “myth”.

Here are some of the points I would like them to consider:

Hero or Heroine

The Monster(s)/ mythical creatures

Different settings/ places in the story

Things that happen on the quest

Draw a “story line” on the back of the paper provided using the ideas you created with the string and bits and bobs in the classroom.

Old Outdoor Clothes All Next Week

Next week the children will need to bring a bag of warm, old outdoor clothes and a pair of wellies or working boots. These should be in a named plastic bag. We will be spending some time working on our "Roundhouse Area" with the Ancient Technology Team from Cranborne.

Roundhouse work

Next week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) Year 3 will be helping Year 4 in the roundhouse area. The children will need to bring warm outdoor clothes and wellies in a named carrier bag to change into. They will be working in groups of 10 under the guidance of our friends from Cranborne Ancient Technology Centre. They will be helping to build a new fence, a door for our roundhouse and a clay oven inside the Viking Longhouse which we can use to bake bread and pizzas! Parents are welcome to come along and help, but wrap up warm!!

Help!

Can you help us? Year 3 can only find the names of 9 out of the 10 plagues of Egypt!!
Which one have we missed?
We have found out about: Blood, frogs, boils, locusts, flies, mosquitoes, cattle dying, darkness, and the Angel of Death!!
Many thanks! Mr Farrington
