Year 3: End of term! Home learning and spellings included...

What a fantastic end of the week we had! The children wrote some amazing bigwrite stories which we were all really proud of. We have made a copy of these and put them in their home learning folders.

The children also have their new AR numbers and have reading books for the half term.

After half term I will be swapping with Mrs Scott's group in RWI so that I can be with all of the children over the term. The set up will stay the same it's just the adults that will swap over. Below is the home learning and spellings. We hope you all have a fabulous half term break. Happy creating 😀

Year 3: Week 7!

Can you believe we are in week 7?!

This week the children are planning and writing their final piece of writing for the half term, the Bigwrite! Our Bigwrite is a story about a Stone Age character that comes into the modern age. It should include fronted adverbials, inverted commas and paragraphs. We will be doing this over the next couple of days and marking them with purple pen on Friday.

In Maths this week we are going back over our end of unit checks and making sure everyone understands what we need to do when we are exchanging during the column method of subtraction.

In Science we will be concluding our work on magnets. Thank you to everyone who has done the home learning and either printed or emailed the pictures they have been great! We have covered almost everything on the knowledge organiser for magnets now and will soon be focussing on forces.

Today the children completed the half termly AR test to get their AR number. This is a set of 34 comprehension questions. I will give the children their new AR number tomorrow.

In PE today with Mr Treble the children had a go at using our new golf clubs! This was a massive 'hit'.

This week in French Mr Edmonds and Mrs Scott taught the children the French alphabet. Mr Edmonds suggests looking at this video to remember with the letters.

Thank you to everyone that made the parents chats last week. If there is anything that you need to discuss then please feel free to catch me at the door in the morning or by email.

Year 3: An amazing trip and Science!

Yesterday we went to the Ancient Technology Centre where we learned how the Bronze Age people lived. We had an amazing time grinding our own flour, making reed rope bracelets and making wool looms. When I have the other photos downloaded I will share some more of the day. The grounds at the ATC are amazing and if you ever get a chance to visit on one of their open days I highly recommend it. Today we wrote recounts of what we did yesterday using the time connective First, next, then, after that and finally.

We had a brilliant Science lesson this afternoon where we learnt about the north and south poles of magnets. We investigated whether or not the size of the magnet makes a difference on how strong it is and even predicted if a magnet could pick up paper clips if there was something in between such as wood, plastic, a hand and even a banana!

After our Science lesson today we also had a discussion about PCR testing and COVID. There were a lot of questions and some uncertainty about children leaving so I think this was the right time to talk about this and assure the worries that some children had. Please do contact me if you have anything you would like to ask me about this and I am always available over email.

Thank you for attending Tuesday nights parents evening. Tomorrow evening we have another parents evening. If you have any questions after talking to me then please do email me or see me on the door in the morning.

Year 3: Trip tomorrow!

                                           Hello everyone

Just another message about the trip to Cranborne tomorrow. Please can you make sure that all children come in home clothes that you don't mind getting dirty as well as a coat and wellingtons. They will need a packed lunch and a drink. When we get there in the morning we will have snack so having this seperate in their bag would be good. All children will need to bring a bag to carry their lunches and drinks.

We will be leaving just after 9am in minibuses driven by our school staff. It is going to be a fantastic day which I know the children are going to enjoy.

If your child gets travel sick please do tell us.

Many thanks and can't wait to update you with some pictures tomorrow!

Year 3 Harvest

We hope you enjoyed our Harvest singing and our delicious leek and potato soup! Here is a picture of our harvest art display.

The children used the skills they learned from Jo from Dorset Wool to make their own wool looms. Which turned out amazingly. It has been a great end to our Food, Faith and Farming fortnight.

Just a reminder that next week we are off to the Ancient Technology Centre on Tuesday. Children should wear home clothes that are warm. Coats and sturdy shoes are a must please. Also please make sure that your child has a packed lunch. It is a whole day trip.

We hope you have a lovely weekend
