Year 3: Fantastic History trip

As you all know, yesterday we went to Shire Hall in Dorchester to learn about the Tolpuddle Martyrs. The children had a great time and got to walk in the footsteps of the martyrs. We learnt so much about them and we even got to act out the court case in the court that it was originally in! We will be using the knowledge gained during this trip to write about the Tolpuddle Martyrs.

Scary judge! She was very good at keeping order in the court.

In DT today the children have designed their castles which we will be making in a couple of weeks.

Just a reminder that you can access a range of e-books at home on Fonetti. At the moment this only works on apple and android apps but not on phones as the screens are too small for reading off. If you have any problems accessing this please do let me know.

Next Thursday (7th) is World Book Day and the children are encouraged to come dressed as a character from a book. Please be aware that this is a swimming day so we ask that the children do not have any face painting and they have clothes they are able to get off and dressed in or a spare set of clothes in their bags. If you would like to be a mystery reader we still have two days spare. If you could just email me please.

Year 3: End of week 1

This week in Science we have started to look our new light topic. Thank you to everyone who has handed in their shadow puppets, we will be using these in the next couple of weeks. This weeks home learning is focussed on previous learning in Science and is to label a skeleton.

In Design Technology we are learning how to make a net to build a castle. This week we have been looking at existing castles and thinking about our own castle designs.

In RWI we have been using this book of poetry:

We will be using this book for the next few weeks and be looking at the structure of sentences.

Just a reminder that next week we have our trip our Shire Hall trip. The following week we have World Book Day. I still have 3 spaces left for our mystery readers. This will take place at 3.15pm every day from 4-8th March.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Welcome to Spring 2- Week 1

Welcome back everyone. We hope you have had a lovely half term.

This half term in English we have started to look at and use the story below.

We'll be looking at the language used to write a range of pieces of writing including an information text at the end of this term.

In Power Maths we have been learning how to use the expanded written method of multiplication as shown below.

In History we have started to learn about the era of the 1800s when the Tolpuddle Martyrs were alive. Next Tuesday (27th) we are going to be walking down to Shire Hall to have a workshop on this. Please can you make sure your child has a packed lunch for this trip as we will be eating this at the Shire Hall. Also, all children will need snacks, drinks bottle and coats please. This trip has been loaded onto the school gateway.

A few parents have asked about Swimming. Swimming will be carrying on until Easter.

If you have any questions about this half term or would like to discuss anything then please come and see me.

Year 3 Week 5 overview

Last week we had a busy week starting with out fantastic STEM KAPLA workshop.

During English last week the children were using conjunctions to describe what happened at the beginning of the story and the end. They also wrote a diary entry and letter to the 'tree grown man'.

In PowerMaths we have been using our knowledge of the times tables to answer reasoning questions.

In Geography we learnt about time zones and how this works.

In Art the children used their skills they have learnt on a final piece of art.

We have also been looking at what it is to be an 'Ally'. We have been watching daily videos and having discussions about what an Ally is and how some people in the world have privileges. We have begun to think about ways we can be an ‘ally’ to somebody who is different from us, who can find life a little bit harder.

Thank you all so much for attending the parent consultation evenings last week. If there is anything that you still want to discuss or would like anything to support learning at home, please do let me know.

This week on Tuesday we will be watching the Year 4 performance of MacBeth.
