Year 3: An amazing day!

Wow what a treat we have had today! The children were all so very well behaved and loved visiting the library and going to watch Matilda the musical in the cinema.

Thank you so much to POWSA that made this possible!

This week we have finished our learning about The Romans and the battle of Watling street. We ran out of time to film today so hope to do this next week at some point.

In Maths we have been looking at subtraction in the column method where we have had to exchange the tens or the hundreds and this is what the home learning this week focuses on.

Thank you to everyone that had their children's reading records in. It's fantastic to see how much you are all reading at home and it is definitely making a difference as their AR numbers are increasing.

We hope you have a lovely weekend. I will be sending out social stories for the children that might need this for our inspired to learn STEM week which will start on Monday.

Year 3: Week 4

This week we will be coming to the end of our learning about The Celts, Romans and the Battle of Watling Street. We will be filming scenes for a short video to share on our learning.

On Tuesday and Wednesday the children are invited to audition for a speaking part in our play.

All children will be involved in the play and costume requests will come home soon.

During our upcoming STEM week we will be doing some sewing. If there are any keen seamstress' out there or even someone who is free for a short time to oversee sewing in small groups during the following times then please let us know. We would be very grateful for any times.

Tuesday 29th November 9-11am
Wednesday 30th November 1.30-3pm
Thursday1st December 1.30-3pm
Friday 2nd December  9-11am

Thank you for all of the reading records that came in and being filled out. Like all things, just getting in to the routine with them either your child filling them out after they have read or you. It doesn't have to be lots of writing, date, title and a quick summary or book review mark is fine. We really appreciate the time and effort that you are all putting into these so thank you.

Friday is obviously our surprise special activity. Please do try and keep this a surprise, if you need to tell your child because of the nature of the event then please try and do this on Thursday after school or Friday morning. Snacks and drinks will be consumed in the venue so please make sure your child has both.

If you have any questions then please do feel free to email or catch us at the door.

Year 3: Spellings and home learning

Year 3: This week

We have had a busy week writing about Boudicca's Revolt. The children have order the historical facts, written full sentences, made notes and completed a newspaper report.

Yesterday we went to Maiden Castle to film the 'mock battle'. We will be doing some filming at school next week to show what we have learnt about the Battle of Watling Street. The shields will then be coming home on Thursday.

In Power Maths we have been learning how to use the column method.

This week we is our Therapeutic Thinking week and so we have been talking about our pro social (positive) and anti social (negative) feelings.

Computing with Mr Spracklen

Today in Computing with Mr Spracklen we continued our unit of work on 'Spreadsheets'.

Today's success criteria was to use -

- The‘more than’, ‘less than’ and ‘equals’ tools to compare different numbers and help to work out solutions to calculations.

- The ‘spin’ tool to count through times table.

We completed this work mainly in pairs (so that we could talk through what we were doing and develop our thinking still further) -

Key activities included -

Want to find out more about spreadsheets and extended your child's understanding?

Check out this great unit of work from the Oak National Academy -

Year 3: Just a reminder

Good evening, could I just put a reminder out for AR reading books to come in to school everyday please. Also on a Friday please can we have the home learning folders in, even if the home learning hasn't been done. We need the folders to sort the spellings.

Thank you πŸ˜€

Y3: Home learning pieces of art!

I popped into the classroom at the end of the day and as soon as I walked in I was amazed by the brilliant shields all around the room. Thank you so much for your support and help with these shields. It really is a task that the children will remember for a long time to come.

They have all been asking me when the battle is! So the plan will be to 'battle' with these either at the end of this week or the beginning of next but this all depends on the weather.

Computing with Mr Spracklen

Today in Computing with Mr Spracklen we found out how spreadsheet programs can automatically create graphs from data.

We used 2Calculate (which is part of Purple Mash).

In class, all children completed Activity One -

Mr Spracklen was very impressed!

Most children also completed Activity Two -

Some children completed Activity Three -

If you want to explore this further at home... why not give Mr Spracklen's Activity Four: Extension activity a try -

Well done Year Three, another great Computing lesson!

Year 3: Home learning-shields

It was so lovely to see all the children again today. We spent some time looking at our new timeline in the hall. We spoke about what we had been learning about last half term and then looked at what we are learning about now and how this fit on the timeline.

Today in History we learnt about how the Romans conquered Britain and what happened during this time.

It was brilliant to see the children getting excited when they saw faces that they recognised on the timeline and key events which they had learnt about in previous years. Some of the things that they noticed were the Great Fire of London and Nelson. We look forward to using the timeline in future lessons, being inquisitive Historians.

Following on from above, we spoke about the home learning. Just a reminder that
Hippogriff + Dragon’s = Roman shield
Owl + Phoenix = Celt shield

Roman shields tend to be the red/yellow ones and the Celts the more earth coloured shields. I reminded them that we do not want swords in please. These are going to be used in our Mock battle. I had originally said by this Friday but I have extended it slightly to Monday. Please bring your child's shield in on Monday 7th November.

Any questions please just give me an email or catch me at the door.

Thank you πŸ˜€
