Y3: Sun cream, Sun hats and water bottles please

We had a great trip to the cinema this morning and enjoyed the air conditioning inside!!

Just a reminder that as it is so hot please do provide your child with a hat, water bottle and put sun cream on in the morning. If it isn’t an 8hour cream please do provide them with some to bring to school. We try and stay in the shade as much as possible.

Y3: Monday Surprise!

Y3: Monday surprise sshhh!

Hello everyone. Just a quick blog to say at the last minute yesterday we got confirmation of a surprise for the children on Monday. We would like to keep it a surprise but if you think your child needs to know because of the changes to the day then please do tell them.

On Monday we are going to use some of the money that they have raised for a movie...at the cinema! First thing on Monday morning we will be walking to the Plaza and watching 'The Croods 2'. They do not necessarily need to have watched the first film as it is stand alone. I know they will be extremely excited about this as they achieved their movie and popcorn house point stickers on our chart.

We are asking that the children bring their own treats to the cinema but please ask that it is no too much. A small bag of popcorn or sweets and a normal drink (no fizzy please), or whatever you would like your child to have.

It is going to be hot on the walk down so suncream and hats are a must please. Luckily the cinema is air conditioned!

This is the first 'end of the year' treat this week and we can't wait to do many other fun activities as well as finish our whole class text, Power Maths assessments and some Now, Press, Play with the headphones. There will be swimming on Wednesday and it will be a fun session.

That's it for now, enjoy the glorious sunny weather and stay safe in the sun.

Y3: Start of arts and wellbeing week

We have had a great start to Arts and Wellbeing week! The children listened to a Now Press Play story on Monday linked to our work on plants. They helped to save 'Stemmy' from the Scientists! They even turned into bees and flew to Jamaica where they had to collect the pollen on their legs. These stories are so immersive and everyone gets involved, they are brilliant!

This week in Maths we have come to the end of our unit on Mass. Yesterday we were adding and subtracting using the column method. The children worked really well through this unit and can compare two numbers such as 1kg 345g and 1,478g.

During the afternoons this week the children could choose different Arts and Wellbeing workshops to attend. From activities such as yoga, meditation, drumming, mosaics and much more! The children have loved attending these and mixing with the other children.

Year 3 - Fiver Superstars

Thank you one and all for your amazing contributions to this week's Fiver Challenge.  Oh what a journey we have had, but I can safely say that the outcome has proved what teamwork can achieve!  Every child has been involved in this collaborative project and although we haven't got the final totals it seems that some great profits have been made.

This weeked we are asking for you to have a count up of the money you have earned.  Deduct any expenses that need to be paid and to return your profits to school on Monday.  We will keep a record of every group's achievement and let you know the grand total of the amazing efforts next week.

It is really good to hear how much the children have enjoyed the challenge, some have a dawning realisation of what hard work might look like and others have just begun their adventure by setting up their own Etsy marketplace!

Thank you all for taking part!

Y3: DRAGONS! Sketching, writing, Science, enterprise and AMAZING drama!

Wow what an amazing week we have had so far!

On Monday the children learnt about Dragons that have been spotted using Arthur Spiderwick's book below

It is a beautiful book with some amazing illustrations!

We then had a go at drawing our own dragons. These turned out brilliantly! We used a picture from the book to inspire our writing.

The children had to use a fronted adverbial along with a simile to describe the items above. For example one of the sentences that they wrote was:

Grated finely, a swirly dragons horn can make you fly as fast as a plane.

All of their work was fantastic and a Marvellous Me is on the way. We have collated the work along with the pictures and stuck them in the writing hall of frame! I will try and update you with a picture of these soon.

Sticking with the Dragon theme... we have also completed a whole school Science investigation. The children had to predict, investigate and evaluate the following statement: 'The wider the hand span the more dragon eggs you can pick up'.

Thank you to everyone who is helping out either on the stalls at school or at home with the fiver challenge. It is brilliant to see and hear the children so enthusiastic about their enterprise and they are all doing so well!

We will add some more photos of this at the end of the week.

Today the children had a go at our new resource in school called 'Now, Press, Play'. They had wireless headphones and listened to a story. The narrator gave the children tasks and actions to do. It was absolutely brilliant!! Every child was so involved in the lesson and they can't wait to try them again very soon!

Finally just a reminder that it is our sports afternoon tomorrow. So if you could make sure your child has their PE kit in school with trainers please that would be great. You are welcome to come and watch this. It will be socially distant.

Once again thank you for your continued support. I cannot believe we only have 12 more school days left of Year 3!

The Year 3 team 😊

Fiver Sales Next Week

The excitement is building.  Sales Week is nearly upon us!

Thank you if you have offered to help with a stall.  The children will be setting up from 3pm each day this week in order to sell their goods or offer their service except for Wednesday and Thursday when they have swimming and sports day (we may be a little later on these days).  If you are coming to help, please come to the office and let Tom know that you are here to help with the fiver challenge.

We wish you and your team well in making a huge profit!  (And if not, having lots of fun selling!)

Dance Day here we come!

Year 3 are looking forward to performing their Epic dace moves tomorrow.  Gracie and Olive thought it might be nice to wear a cool hat and some sun glasses for our dance, if you have some bring them along tomorrow.  Looking forward to seeing everyone's moves!  Thank you girls for a great idea. 💡!!
