Have a great Half Term!
Hands-on history alert!
Hello Year 3 families
We were thrilled to welcome our visitors from Castle Hill Heritage Skills CIC today, who popped into class to introduce themselves to the children. Jen and Anthony will be teaching the children their history topic next half term - Stone Age to Iron Age. All of the learning will be hands-on and from the response this morning I think the children are going to absolutely love it!
All learning will take place in or by the roundhouse - come rain or shine! Please make sure your child has warm clothes, layers and sturdy shoes/wellies for their outdoor history learning next half term.
Anthony and Jen challenged the children to find out a little more about the Palaeolithic period over the holidays - when did it start and end? Were dinosaurs alive during the Palaeolithic period? And any other information they can find out!
We can't wait to get started!

From Stone Age to Iron Age!
Hello Year Three Families
We are very excited to let you know that Year 3 will be learning about the history topic “Stone Age to Iron Age” with the help of the Ancient Technology Centre.
Each week, Anthony and Jenny—experts in the Stone Age and Iron Age—will be teaching the children what life was like from the Paleolithic to the Romans, and everything in between. The children will enjoy hands-on experiences, all taking place in Forest School and the Roundhouse.
Please ensure your child has suitable clothing for outdoor learning. These sessions will take place every Thursday afternoon.
We cannot wait to get started!

Wellies and home trousers tomorrow and this weeks homelearning
Farm and Forest School Kit
Just a quick reminder that the children need to come to school tomorrow (Thursday) wearing home trousers for the farm and forest school, along with wellies! They should wear their school uniform tops, but ideally also bring their full forest school clothes to change into for the afternoon.
Many of the children already have wellies at school, but it’s important that everyone brings a change of shoes — not just wellingtons — so that we don’t end up walking mud through the school.
Home Learning
This week’s home learning will be coming home on Friday, but here’s a little preview.
We’d like the children to think about ways they can choose kindness — at home, at school, or when they’re out and about. It would be wonderful if they could find opportunities to be kind every day, but we’re only asking them to record what they’ve done on three of the days.
The link to the home learning sheet can be found [here], and hard copies will be in book bags on Friday.
Spellings
Well done to all the families who accessed the spelling homework on EdShed (Spelling Shed)! Where possible, I strongly encourage the children to do a little spelling practice each day, or as often as they can.
The new home learning assignment will be available on Friday, and we’d like the children to complete at least five games over the week, please.

Thursday is farm trip and forest school
We have an exciting and active day planned for Thursday! Please could children come to school wearing trousers from home that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty. We ask that they still wear their school polo shirts and jumpers or cardigans on top.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak to a member of the team at drop-off or pick-up, or feel free to drop me an email.

Autumn fun in Year 3
Hello everyone,
I hope you’ve been enjoying the beautiful autumn days we’ve had recently. Fingers crossed they continue into our Food, Faith and Farming Fortnight—especially for our farm visit next Thursday! At the end of this post, you’ll also find some key upcoming dates for your diary.
Spellings
Instead of weekly “tests,” the children will now take part in a Friday spelling check. Year 4 have already started this and are responding very positively.
Spelling homework will continue to go home on Fridays. These words will be linked to the new spelling rules the children will be learning the following week.
Home Learning
This week’s home learning is all about Autumn. We would love to see your child’s creative take on the season. Some ideas include:
-
Taking an autumn photograph
-
Writing a seasonal poem
-
Composing an autumn-inspired story
-
Creating artwork inspired by Andy Goldsworthy
-
Or any other autumn-themed creative project!
You are very welcome to use the enclosed sheets, but feel free to use your own resources too. Please email any photos you want to share to c.browne@princeofwales.dorset.sch.uk s
