Class assembly, home learning & upcoming dates

Hello everyone,

Just a reminder that it is the year 3 class assembly tomorrow (Friday 13th March) at 9.30am.

As our assembly is so close to World Book day we tried to minimise costumes and many roles were determined by what the children said they already had or what costumes we have that we thought may fit them. All children should come to school in non school uniform (in exchange for Easter Bingo prizes if you are able to contribute). Only a small number of children will be in a costume for the assembly but all of them will have the opportunity to show off their wonderful Roman and Celtic shields - thank you for your support in completing this home learning project.

This week's home learning is for your child to create a poster to explain how to protect yourself from the sun and why this is important.

The hard copies will come home on Friday but the Home learning electronic link can be found here.

Spellings for the following week will be live from Friday on Spellingshed. Hard copies will come home tomorrow but links can be found below:

Here are the upcoming dates:
Friday 13th March - Dress Down Day - non school uniform
Friday 13th March - Year 3 Class assembly
Monday 16th March - Science Week starts
Friday 20th March - non school uniform & wear something red day for Comic Relief

Tuesday 24th March - Tennis taster session

As ever, please get in touch with a member of the team if you have any questions or comments.

Kind regards,
The Year 3 Team

Thank you & an assembly update

World Book Day was a wonderful celebration of reading and personal interests. Thank you for all the effort you put into providing a costume for your child. The children looked fantastic and clearly enjoyed sharing their favourite characters and books with each other.

I have included some photos at the end of this blog, and I plan to use the whole-class photo in the end of year reports, so you will have an opportunity to see everyone’s wonderful costumes.

As well as a day filled with books, stories and reading, the children also had the opportunity to choose a book to take home. We held a whole-school book swap in the hall, where every child was able to choose a book. Thank you to those who were able to donate pre-loved books.

We also had our very own Year 3 Book Share, as my two children kindly went through their books at home and donated some that they thought the Year 3 children might enjoy. Any children who didn’t find a book during the hall swap were given first choice from our classroom selection. As a result, every child should have come home with at least one book that they like, with many children taking home two.

We also began rehearsals for our assembly today, with each child reading their lines. Tomorrow we will send their lines home (this will be their home learning) along with their spellings.

In addition to individual lines, there are also some class lines, which are clearly indicated on the scripts. Where your child has a suggested costume, please do not worry—we have almost everything the children will need. The only exception is the Roman costumes. The children who are playing Romans have assured me that they already have their costumes ready from our Year 3 Romans Day.

As part of the assembly, the children were asked who would like to showcase their growing skills on the recorder. I was delighted that a good group volunteered to play. Mrs Burgess will be sending a recorder home with these children, and it would be wonderful if they could practise playing London’s Burning twice a day. I hope to have a sheet ready for them as well, showing which notes to play, and this should come home over the weekend.

Learning to play an instrument is such a wonderful skill, and I am very proud that so many children wanted to share their playing with an audience.

Just a reminder that our assembly will take place on Friday 13th March at 9:30am.

This week the children have worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of themselves. I am really looking forward to sharing their assembly with you.

Best wishes,

Moose, Harold and the Purple Crayon
(also known as Ms Browne, Mrs Burgess and Miss Morgan)

World Book Day tomorrow and our Assembly next week

A quick reminder that World Book Day is tomorrow, Thursday 5th. Children are very welcome to dress as a favourite book character. Alternatively, they may choose to dress as a character linked to their own interests — for example, a sportsperson from a book, a scientist, a musician, or another inspirational figure connected to reading.

Another reminder that our class assembly will take place on Friday 13th at 9.30am. The children will be bringing their lines home this weekend, and we would be very grateful if you could support them in learning these.

Further details will follow, including costume guidance — these will be intentionally simple and low-demand.

Tea tasting

One of the parents, Mr Perry, works for Clipper Tea and very kindly provided us with the teas for our tea tasting session today.

He has also given us enough teabags so that the children can take a tea bag of each type home to share with you.

In class over the term, we will be learning more about tea and the work that companies like Clipper Tea do provide fair trade tea products. If you would like more information about this please check out:
