Year 3 Science - Investigating Floating

In Year 3 we have been investigating floating.
We had to make "boats" out of tin foil capable of holding as many marbles as possible.
We made to make sure our "boats" were tested fairly.
We learned from our first attempts and were all able to make modifications so that our second and third attempts were able to balance more effectively and hold more marbles.

 Part 2:  Countries in Europe Challenge

Can you find out the names of some of the countries in Europe?

If you look at a map of Europe you could see where these countries are. Which ones are close to England? Which are further away? Which countries are bigger and which are smaller?

Next week, we will challenge the children in Year 3 to name as many countries in Europe as they can.

Can you learn the names of five?----ten? --- or maybe, twenty?--- even more?!!

Year 3 Science - Forces

The children in Year 3 have been enjoying carrying out practical experiments to explore the topic of "Forces" in their Science lessons. 

They have been combining in teams to measure the strength of magnets, to test and measure the distances different things will roll  down a ramp, and to create effective parachutes that create air resistance while still managing to balance. 

Perhaps you could test them at home to see if they can remember what is meant by "Gravity" and  "Friction" ?

The children in Year 3 have been given a map of the World. I would like them to find where each of the continents are, and the oceans are - and label these on the Map. They may also like to carefully shade in the continents with different coloured pencils.

Year Three - Multiplication/Division Focus

Just to let you know that the focus of our work in Mathematics for the next few weeks is "Multiplication and Division".

We are always encouraging the children to learn their "Times Tables", but we will be having an increased focus on this at this stage in the year.
 For your information, the Age Related Expectations in the National Curriculum at Year 3
"Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables."
This builds on the knowledge of the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables expected at Year 2.

Year 3 Home Learning- Wednesday 1st November

 -  Response to a “story introduction”.

The children have been asked to write the next part of the story, following on from this introduction:

I was feeling very odd when I woke up this morning. I was strangely hot and felt as if I wanted to scratch myself. When my alarm clock went off it actually scared me, and I leapt out of bed. I landed lightly on my feet.

When I looked into my bedroom mirror I couldn’t believe what I saw.

Could this be possible?

I had turned into a chimpanzee!!!

Year 3 Costumes for Class Assembly – on Friday 10th November

Costumes for Class Assembly – on Friday 10^th November
Dear Parents,
It would be great if the children could bring in a costume for their Class Assembly on Friday 10^th November. They are all going to be playing the part of sailors on board a 16th Century sailing ship.
Tracksuit trousers and T-shirts would be ideal. Handkerchiefs over their heads might make a nice addition. Any that fancy a bit of face paint to add tattoos and moustaches would be welcome. As the children will be climbing on the PE apparatus, they will need to have bare feet. (They will not be allowed to use any toy cutlasses or pistols as they will need their hands free for climbing.)
We hope that you can come along to the assembly (at 9.20am) to see them in action.
